Busy Day in the Garden - Preparing the ground for the start of new season

in #homesteading5 years ago (edited)

Spring is a "hot" time for gardeners and homesteaders, isn't it?

Recently I visited our garden, where we grow vegetables, fruits and berries for our family.
Had a lot of work, trying to put everything in order after winter:

-checked the garlic

image

-uncovered our winter onion bed

image

Don't think it is empty. If you look closer, you'll see these tiny sprouts.

image

-covered the ground under the raspberry and blackberry bushes with a mulch, using the remnants of dry vegetation taken from our onion beds

image

-sowed a few rows of carrot and onion (again)

image

-made this juniper bush a haircut

image

-found some volunteer plants and take them home for salad

image

image

-unwrapped young apple trees (protection against hares)

image

Still have a lot of work to do for the next visit.

A minute for self:-)

P.S. Did you know that raspberry and currant cuttings you usually throw away in spring can be used to make a fragrant tea?
That's why I take them home;-)
