Golden Oak Farm looking east from the house on a hot July evening

For his birthday on Saturday, my intern’s dad got a drone. He wanted to do a video of our farm. I don’t know how to upload videos that will play, gave up years back. But I could capture photos from it, so here are the highlights.

This shows the pigs’ turnout when we have pigs. Inside is the layers’ snake fence. In front of the barn is the layers’ permanent pen with the circus tent.

He brought the drone all the way to the end of the back 40 and turned it around. This is the farm from that end. The field on the right belongs to someone else.

Hovering over the barn, this is the middle pasture.

It was fascinating seeing the addition next to the existing house. It looks so much bigger, but the existing has 1½ and 2 stories. The addition is all 1 story. The white oak dominates the upper right corner.

Hovering over the house this is the front pasture looking west. The swamp runs down the right side of the photo.

Hovering over the road, this shows the pasture pen in detail. If you look carefully, you can see the 3rd electric wire fence around the outside of the netting fence.

The little trees

It was really fascinating seeing the farm from above. It looks much neater and cared for than from the ground. On the ground we can see the fences needing repair, the hay not mown, the weedy gardens, etc.

I had no idea I got the pasture pen as square as it is. I am the one who decides where posts go because that affects how the circus tent’s ropes hang. Too much variation and lots of them need to be adjusted to keep the hawks out.

Pretty cool snapshot of the farm in mid July.

Wow. That's quite a farm you have. The drone photos really gave a different perspective of the place. The oak tree is very imposing. Enjoyed this post of yours very much.
