I lived on a boat for 7 years off gird and I got the exact same reponse about wishing their girlfriend or wife would live like that. It always made me cringe too, and wonder if they even knew what their lady could or couldn't handle.
I love living off grid, and working to take care of your own being. It is sometime hard, and takes much more time then living "normal" but it also is so fulfilling. It feels real in a world when it is not always so clear what is real or not.
