As planned we went to go get the new buck this morning. We briefly visited his kids and the other goats on the property. All looked happy and healthy. The buck (still nameless at this point) does not run up to you yet doesn’t make you fight him either. He’s just a friendly dude.
Once we were home I put him in a separate section of the barn just to let him get some rest. When I went to check on him he was making soft noises to the other goats and they answered him.
After a little rest I brought the other goats to pasture and then went back for the new guy. The collars I have don’t fit this large meat goat and his chunky neck so I had to dress him with a simple rope temporarily. He sorta walked with me, like he did not like it but did not put up a fight too (i used the same route as the girls did so I guess the smell along the track help me get him moving).
The goats were friendly towards him at first. Then Shizu decided to inspect this new guy.
She braced her body to look extra large and went to him. The buck then lifted his head and showed his mighty beard.
Shizu did not like that his head could be held higher than hers.
You should have seen the look on her face!!
When he did that she turned around and walked away with the herd in tow.
He was completely dumbfounded..

After his confusion he went after them and sorta tags along. He is clearly interested in her but it will take all his strength to win her over.
Luckily for him Shizu will be in heat in a couple more days.
Tonight the two big girls and the buck will be in one pen and the two smaller goats (Jiro and Kimiko) will be in the other. This buck is used to having other smaller bucks in the pen with him so I don’t think he would be out to hurt or kill Jiro (who avoids any fights anyway) but just to be safe they will not be together at night.
Meanwhile Jiro stays far away from the fuzz
As of yet the buck does not have a name yet. I intend to stick to the japanese theme. Suggestions for a name are most welcome.
Note: He needs to be brushed and I will do so once he feels more comfortable.
The new buck looks like a Mr. Bean to me...Just a suggestion.
Hopefully Shizu takes to him.
A decent Japanese name may be Katsu meaning, "Victory". (Pronounced: Ka-tsoo)
