Walaupun sering diberi makan, anak burung tersebut tidak mengenal kenyang. Jika salah seekor anak burung tidak membuka paruhnya, bagi sang induk, hal itu menjadi tanda bahwa anak burung tersebut tidak lagi bisa bertahan hidup atau ia sudah mati. Maka anak burung tersebut dibuang dari sarangnya demi melindungi serta untuk kesejahteraan anaknya yang lain.
