BLACULA(1972)-HORROR MOVIE REVIEW W/Sonny Knight!

in #horror6 years ago

SPOILER ALERT !!

Today i decided to review a movie i seen a while back from the black exploitation era of the 70's. The movie Blacula, Starring some people i don't care to look up for this reviews authenticity's sake, was to me overall a pretty mediocre film.

The movie starts off with a couple( a prince and his wife) meeting a king of a castle and having some dinner. The king discusses having the prince's wife's blood. To which The prince is offended and wants to leave. First of all i wouldn't be anywhere near this creepy motherfucker just look at this guy

I know right creepy as fuck!
Anyway, They are then told they can't leave and are attacked by the kings men. The prince(main character of the film via blacula) fights them off for some time but is soon overwhelmed and knocked out. Then, these weird ass witch looking vampire women emerge and hold his wife captive.

The prince is then bitten while knocked unconscious by the king who is really Count Dracula, then placed under a curse and named "Blacula". The Count then locks Blacula and his wife in a tomb for eternity. The intro then ensues. Now at this point for a 1970's horror flick i'm thinking it's okay, with some lackluster acting but that is expected when going into this movie. In older movies (especially black exploitation movies) you expect sub par performances in general.

Cut to present day and a interracial homosexual couple are trying to buy the very castle that blacula was buried in. The realtor discusses the fact that it used to be home for Count Dracula. They laugh it off as anyone would and the guys say that they'll take it. I dont know about you guys but the black gay guy already looks like a vampire, they probably figured hey he has vampire teeth already so he fits the part well. Also he already looks life-less in the face. Anyways, The couple is snooping around in the basement and run pass a coffin. The white guy cuts himself trying to pry open a chest with a crowbar. This awakens Blacula because of the scent of his blood i guess. Blacula exits the coffin and they don't notice(which is some bullshit because if i see anything going on in my basement even if it's a mice i am going to notice)so he gets close enough knocks one guy out the way and bites the white guy on the arm. Soon after he bites the black guy after slapping him around a bit.
He gets back into his coffin laughing.( this moment is fucking hilarious don't believe me just watch the scene ).

The soundtrack to this movie is groovy as FUCK! Tons of FUNK! Outta Sight!

Blacula notices a woman that looks like his dead wife and seeks her to be his wife again. She is also sort of the main character in the movie but really the main protagonist is the Doctor/Examiner Guy. I don't remember their names so don't ask. The doctor guy is also the only one in this movie with even the slightest bit of sense.

I mean SERIOUSLY HE EVEN LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. LOL

In Blacula's pursuit of the woman who looks like his wife from his past life, she runs and drop her purse, this is the first fuck up. Then she gets home to her apartment and their are a pair of spare keys just in the hallway in some type of compartment. Yeah it's convenient but COME THE FUCK ON, who actually has shit like that in the apartment building they live in? Any robber or thief can just wait until you leave and get a spare key and snoop around your crib and take things without you noticing and put the key back and get the fuck outta there.

BACK TO THE REVIEW
I also like how after every night on the town Blacula goes right back to his coffin, that was always cool to me.
THE MOVIE ALSO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT APPROPRIATENESS THEY SAY THE WORD "FAGGOT" PEOPLE. AHHHHH, THE 70'S WHEN YOU COULD SAY PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING REGARDLESS OF WHO WAS OFFENDED.
The Doc knows something is up when at the bar with Blacula and he doesn't like camera flashes. Also every recent kill has those damn BITE MARKS, I COULD HAVE DIED LAUGHING WHEN THE MORTICIAN SAID THAT THEY WERE RAT BITES. LMAO!!!

I almost forgot the "THAT IS ONE STRANGE DUDE GUY",As he refers to Blacula LOL.
Another thing i never understood throughout the entire film why does anyone want to shoot him in the stomach, it doesn't even make him flinch then he just kills a cop, and then another cop and another. LIKE SERIOUSLY!! What police academy trained these assholes???

yeah probably so, either them or those damn super trooper! but i like super troopers.

Soon a showdown between the cops and Blacula ensues and Blacula's wife to be is killed by a stake in the chest as she sits in the coffin. Blacula feels he has nothing left to live for and so he kills himself which is the END of the film.
OVERALL I GIVE THE FILM

IT WAS ENTERTAINING TO SAY THE LEAST BUT THEN AGAIN I LOVE OLD SCHOOL FILMS I HAVE A OLD SOUL YES I KNOW. I WAS BORN IN 95 PEOPLE...GIVE ME A BREAK.
