Having won great popularity in France, chests with boxes were renamed into chests of drawers and pedestals for linen, becoming an indispensable attribute of any room.
Masters cabinetmakers made chests of drawers and pedestals for clothes from various species of trees, but the walnut, oak and pine trees were very popular. The greatest value was represented by white curbstones and chests of drawers with inlaid from mother-of-pearl and ivory, which were not just a place for storing things, but a piece of interior that pleases the eye.
