Thanks for the reply. For the past week that's what I've been doing. Posting with #prepping as my first tag. It doesn't show up in the list and I can't tell if anyone else is posting there either.

Any luck with info on creating a "new" topic? I also posted a intervention about a new topic titled "Expats" but have received no how-to info nor has it hit the topic list. Conflused.

I tried finding the topic - to no avail. Then I visited the post you made (https://steemit.com/expats/@retiredinsamar/new-topic-expat-community) using the #expats tag and found this: (https://steemit.com/trending/expats)

So it's under the /trending sub-category, and your post is the only one there (so far). To be honest, I still don't fully understand how they're doing this (or why), but this does provide some interesting features. For instance, you can form your own group (as you have) with the "expats" tag; then invite any & all folks who reply to your post & share your lifestyle to make sure they too use the tag "expats" (notice I'm not using the hashmark here since the system recognizes this symbol and only allows five (5) per post... Then, at least, you can always get to that group by clicking on that tag in any of your posts where you used it (if no other way).

You can even start a PRIVATE blog area by using an encrypted hashtag (such as: 8cdb89e32299940b6c557df866e62337) for instance, and sharing this (by email or IM) with only those you want to share this blog with. It's hardly likely anyone else will encounter this "topic" until it gets popular enough to be displayed on the expanded list of tags/topics. Be aware however, once anything you write is recorded on the Steemit blockchain, it cannot be erased.

Just some whimsical conjecture on my behalf! Good luck!

Ah... I'm beginning to understand, I think. Thanks for that explanation.
