The best part of a hunting trip is laughs with my Friends!

in #hunting7 years ago

The first day hunting at “The Bank” was a small success. I got started early with my good friend Seth and three fantastic German Shorthair Pointers. These dogs are incredible athletes and they cover an enormous amount of ground. The dogs are just as important as the hunters because they not only help us locate the Pheasants, they retrieve downed birds in heavy cover.

We busted two big groups of Pheasants in the first 5 minuets and it looked like it was going to be a trigger happy day. The rest of the hunt things got a lot more challenging and we saw a few but getting bag limits was tough. This is exactly why it’s called hunting and not killing. Ringneck Pheasants are plentiful in the heartland of America and they are helped by many groups to provide great habitat for breeding. This bird is a renewable resource when managed right by State Fish & Game agency’s. I hunt birds for fun (it’s a blast...and it’s nowhere close to easy) but, most importantly I only hunt what I am willing to eat. My group of friends and I like to eat these birds so the sportsman in all of us always ends up at the dinner table. Tomorrow night is our big Pheasant fry!

I am currently hunting in Nebraska but we have some PRIME ground to hunt tomorrow just across the border into Colorado. So we just purchased Colorado hunting licenses on the internet tonight, just to hunt this big farm tomorrow. I am almost certain we will see more roosters on this farm than we have seen the entire year. This farm is extremely exlucsive to hunt and very rarely does one get the opportunity. Lucky for me, my good friends who own Hayden Outdoors have incredible connections and have arranged for us to hunt the farm all day tomorrow! This should be an absolute blast and we will have many birds to fry up.

My internet service is almost third world slow because I am litteraly in the middle of nowhere right now. The cellular and WiFi services out here are very weak so it’s frustrating I can’t even upload pictures without it taking 30 min a photo. Tomorrow I’ll post some pictures of the success we have as a group, should be a day with lots of gun powder smell in the air.

Broncnutz-

PS. I know some of you don’t like hunting and don’t like guns.....please understand this is American culture and Western values and rights as an American Citizen. I don’t hunt to kill, I could actually care less if we get anything although it’s more fun when we do. I hunt for food and for sport. I am thankful that God has given us plenty of these birds to eat and enjoy with others. Many people in this area of America are hunters, gun owners and constitutional rights protectors. It’s in a hunters blood....his DNA....and you can never convince them otherwise. The second amendment of the constitution is the most important (the right to bear arms). I support the NRA.....don’t tread on me.

I concur with a you-the laugh is better especially on reminiscing your past and laughing at each other for the misses you get on preys than the preys you have killed.

Great hunting experience , I wish you a successful hunting as I expect to see some great photos also

How do these birds taste compared to chicken? People always talk about the Gamey taste?

Won 6 Steems from a Photobomb Contest but lost it all to magic-dice, go figure

Friends always make everything interesting

It's always about the journey!

Es grato siempre esos compartidos. Y lo agradable es entre amigos.. Saludos Bro!!

Well, I applaud that you only take out what you are willing to eat! I have no issue with that, only senseless killing for no reason.

My dad always went pheasant hunting in New England (where else is there in this world, right? I mean, the Patriots live there!!) I digress.. we always had it on the table and ducks too. He had nine kids and there was a waste not, want not rule in our house. Glad to see that you can have fun with your friends as well.

Life is good when you live this way!

Well, I totally understand the third world internet situation. I am off on vacation in a week and I will be several weeks out in the islands with marginal internet, so, of course, I will be sleeping at the nearest coffeehouse to catch up on things.

Good luck in Colorado!! May the Force be with you! PS... I belong to the NRA and have been to their HQ on Maples Road in Fairfax, Virginia. It is right off 50...It has a little museum there too.
