This month it became known about the supposed distribution of personal data of users of Binance cryptocurrency exchange in the messenger Telegram. At the same time, other trading platforms face problems of a similar nature, says The Block.
According to sources, the name of the Huobi cryptocurrency exchange often appears in the Darkweb markets, where users who call themselves hackers are trying to sell data allegedly belonging to the clients of the trading platform.
The minimum cost of these Huobi users in darkweb is only $0.30. Records include phone numbers and text messages sent during the withdrawal process.
One of the sellers assures that phone numbers are "perfectly real" and can pay off well, provided that their owners make contact with potential attackers. "The level of conversion is sufficient to organize a pyramid scheme," says the vendor.
The network also sells user data from lesser-known cryptographic exchanges, such as BIKI, Hetbi and ZDCoin.
Huobi's marketing director, Ross Jean, said that the data from at least one such ad does not belong to his company's customers. The exchange compared the information distributed with its own databases and concluded that "only a negligible proportion of phone numbers are linked to Huobi accounts".
"We suspect that the hacker is using the name Huobi to attract interest in his business," said Jean.
Phone numbers, which are allegedly linked to Huobi users, may have been obtained through means other than direct hacking of a stock platform. A company spokesman believes there may have been hacking by a third party provider of messaging solutions, which explains why Huobi's account verification codes are in the information distributed.
"We understand that recent leaks from a large exchange are increasing concerns about the identity of our users. However, this is a different case," added a Huobi representative.
