Hurricane Irma: Be Safe, Not Stubborn

Hello Steemians,

I am sharing some thoughts about this video that I just viewed about Hurricane Irma updates and the projected storm path. You can watch the video for yourself, but one of the news reporters stated that there were some residents along the coastal areas of Southwest Florida who didn't want to evacuate. Others were saying that they were still there to say "Goodbye" for the last time. WTH???

I don't think that I can fully comprehend why someone would keep themselves in harms way after several warnings of hurricane threat. Not only do people have to worry about hurricane force winds but the storm surges alone are potentially destructive to property and life threatening. I watched a graphical depiction of storm surges and 9 feet of water is enough to cover a one story home. 2 feet of water is enough to sweep vehicles away. And the Weather Channel has been reporting that a 10- 15 feet storm surge is expected along some of the coastal area of southwest Florida. The storm surge could travel for several miles inland, also. Ocean water and hurricane energy are powerful forces to be reckoned with.

I am not sure if some of these folks are laxidasical about making preparations and evacuations. Maybe they have an "incivibility complex" and don't think that the worst case scenario will ever happen to them. Some folks are too comfortable where they are for there own good and don't want to abandon their property. Others are very sentimental and worried about the looters moving in and taking their Earthly possessions. Well, all these things can be replaced but no one can come back to life after they are dead. Life is more important than property! So, please worry about loss of property later and get out while there's still time.
