What Shivom does? Shivom represents the future of healthcare and specifically precision medicine. They are focused on building the world's largest genomics data hub and healthcare services platform on the blockchain. So, the idea initially what will do genomics but is to build sort of end to end healthcare services platform. Starting from directly consumer genomic sequencing will provide obviously some insights on wellness. They’re also assembling a very large genomic counselling network, obviously the counsellors will play a very important role in terms of helping individuals to decipher the information that comes back from the sequencing. There also will be third-party apps that will be on their platform and in the future once they have a critical mass with their data hub, they also move towards drug discovery for rare diseases. People who may not even understand the sort of importance of genomics and where medicine is going in relation, right now when it comes to medicine it's very reactive. So, if we get cold, we’re not feeling well, we get sick, we typically go to a doctor to try to figure out what's going on and then we’re prescribed medicine which often times it's sort of a one-size-fits-all and the medicine mostly works but there are times when that medicine may not be right or it's just not a good fit.
So, the promise of genomes and really the real deep science behind it is once you have an understanding of genomes, obviously everybody has their own DNA profile and really is sort of the instructions their blueprint that determines your development, your characteristics and everyone obviously is very unique in that regard but once you have a better understanding of your genomes this will help you to understand perhaps what you should be eating, what you should not be eating, what certain ailments or diseases that you're prone towards. Are there particular medicines that you should be ingesting or not? So, it really there's so many different very important issues and for when it comes to drug discovery in pharma it becomes very important as we go down for R&D and clinical trials that we understand all the different variations of genomes and helping to understand what may be particularly genomes may be attributed toward certain diseases. In terms of medicine one step should be taken in terms of developing the right kinds of medicine for the disease. Cancer researchers seem convinced or at least somewhat confident that the path forward is going to be sort of individualized treatment and part of that is of course based on figuring out at an even sort of finer grain level how cancers even the same types of cancers might manifest differently in one person or another but part of this is also going to be the individuals sort of genetic makeup but the concern always is in order to figure these things out you need a lot of data and with just over the counter DNA testing there are some real concerns about who owns that data? What part of the world your ancestry is from?
For those who have made the decision to get their genome sequence what typically happens right now they’ll receive sort of a saliva swab to direct the consumer perspective. And once that's done you’ll get your certain genome sequenced or processed, you'll get some insights and what a lot of people are doing right now is those insights will give you maybe on your ancestry or lineage and obviously that's important for people of interest. You'll get some high-level information towards your wellness and predispositions but after that what people may or may not realize is that a lot of that data is then you’ve sort of written it off and it’s now available for third parties to be able to monetize on that. So, a lot of organizations right now are badging those genomes and selling it to different large pharmaceutical companies and obviously they're making a lot of money from it. Many people don't even realize that and they certainly aren't seeing the benefit of it from an economic perspective and more important perhaps is that they just don't have any control of where that very special sensitive information goes.
So, what Shivom is doing which is going to be very different is that through the blockchain and in cryptography, same process in a sense that you will get your saliva swab, you get your genome sequence but at the end of the day through crypto keys you're going to be able to have a 100% full control over your data. So, you can decide whether you want to donate your genomes to a particular research or perhaps for some of the pharmaceutical companies that are on their platform if they're going to conduct a particular clinical trial for example, you would be rewarded for participating in those trials via tokens that are could be on their platform and there's all other services and products that will be on the Shivom platform but through that again you will have full control over who has access to your personal information, to your genomes and where those genomes will go.
Smart contracts play a very important role on Shivom platform as well. So, beyond just controlling who has access you also be able to make a lot of very important decisions about what kind of information you want via smart contracts. One of the areas that they highlight is that some people have reservations about getting their genome sequence because perhaps it comes back with information that they didn’t want to know. There would be an option for example via smart contracts to say “I only want to know actionable information that I can do to improve my wellness”. By having that control over the process and who has control over it and also the kind of insights that you will personally be receiving it gives people a lot of comfort. When it comes to security a very big distinction, a lot of the organizations right now are coming from a much 100% centralized posture and by Shivom they’ll be utilizing the blockchain solution. It's more of a hybrid solution, all information is going to be encrypted, anonymized. Everyone will have a global ID that’s going to be hashed in the blockchain and all the transaction worker on chain as well.
The information itself is encrypted and it's anonymized and unique to Shivom platform is that everybody will have a global ID which will be hashed also anonymized on the blockchain so that ID in it of itself is not able to be linked to any particular identity. You'll have multiple layers of cryptography, multiple layers of anonymity but it will be up to the individual, there are circumstances where you will release more information. Perhaps it's a one-on-one session with the genomic counsellor or a doctor. So, you'll have control you may want your employer to have access to information or not. It just depends on what kind of level of visibility that you want but by default the information is an encrypted, anonymized. When it comes to function of the token, first a big part of the problem that's happening right out there right now is there are genomic sequencing going on all around the world but these are all in sort of disparate databases. Formats are different and so what you've got is a bunch of disparate information all around the world that's not connected.
So, on Shivom platform via the blockchain and their multiple protocols, they are intending to unlock all this disparate data to get it onto one platform and that’s going to be very important. Next thing is security, the security on the blockchain is far superior than what's happening right now in centralized database. Routinely we hear about hacks that are happening across multiple sectors, include healthcare. So, blockchain will create a whole other layer of security that's going to be obviously very important when it comes to patient data and privacy. Last one for the blockchain provides opportunities to utilize smart contracts and tokens. Smart contracts going to really disintermediate automate a lot of the processes that happen and in efficiencies within the healthcare system. it's prevalent in many different areas and the token itself sort of fuels Shivom platform. Every single transaction, every product or service that that is going to be transacted on Shivom platform is going to require the token.
