An autostereogram is a single-image stereogram (SIS), designed to create the visual illusion of a 3D scene from a 2D image. When the image is viewed in the correct way, a hidden 3D scene emerges . There are two ways an autostereogram can be viewed: parallel and cross-eyed. With the parallel viewing method, you have to focus your eyes somewhere behind the real 2D image. With the cross-eyed viewing method, you have to cross your eyes to focus in front of the real 2D image. An image designed for parallel viewing if viewed correctly will appear to pop out of the background, while if viewed cross-eyed it will instead appear as a cut-out behind the background.
