On another level, increased intake of any kind of drugs is merely a reflection of our loss of sensitivity for ourselves and for others.
Artificial Intelligence creates the illusion of bringing us closer together, yet in actuality it makes us drift apart physically. So we lose touch to our bodie's physicality, its natural abilities and sensitivity. We more and more stop FEELING ourselves and others, physically, emotionally, mentally, psychologically and spiritually. So we need to resort to artificial means to return to that feeling which ever more fades away.
But don't worry! In a not too far away future, nano-technological, pharmaceutical and cybernetically augmentation will alleviate these worries...;)
True, it's an epidemic nowadays caused by over rationalizing our lives.
Humanity needs a pill to get rid of the mind ;-)
