June 14th this year is the release date for animation The Incredibles 2, by my favorite studio Pixar, so I thought why don’t we remember so cool the first part of it.
The incredibles went to the movie screens in 2004 and, with a budget of $ 92 million, grossed a little more than 631 million dollars worldwide, and in 2005 was nominated for an Oscar in four nominations and it won two. This is the best sound editing and best animated film, of course))
This animation film was written and directed by Brad Byrd, who previously staged several episodes of The Simpsons and created only one film, the Iron Giant, which critics liked but it failed at the box office.
So pity, it's a really great cartoon. However, this failure turned into a good luck for Brad Byrd's career. He was noticed by the big shots from the Pixar studio. I think they liked the Iron Giant very much, because they allowed Byrd to do literally anything. And it begins!
For the first time in the history of Pixar studio, work on the script for the animation film was conducted by Brad Byrd alone, i.e. other screenwriters were not invited (!!!). And Bird broke the limits))) He decided to implement one of his ideas, which he had, as he said, since the 90s. I don’t know what inspired him to create a story about superheroes, who are forced to live like ordinary people, but it seems to me that it couldn’t be without Alan Moore’s Watchmen, because there are so many common in these two works. And the style of the 50s-60s of the 20th century, and superheroes in classical costumes, and the ban on the activities of these superheroes, and the midlife crisis of one of the characters. !
Although Brad Bird himself claims that he was inspired by the comics of James F. Steranko, who draw early editions of Captain America and the comics about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, the analogies with Watchmen are obvious.
Also the whole film is just saturated with the spirit of Bond. But not a new one, with Daniel Craig, but that old one, classic Bond. Here the villain lives in a volcano on his own island, where he has his own base with huge amount of faceless soldiers, he has a big, villainous, absurd plan to take the world and a huge number of the most incredible gadgets. This reference to pop culture does not end there. Here are just some of them:
The superabilities of our heroes are inspired by different heroes of comics, but the most recognizable is the Fantastic Four.
The image of the superhero fashion designer Edna Modd was written off from the famous Hollywood costume designer Edith Head, who dressed all the movie superstars for the half of century.
And one of the scenes is entirely a direct reference to the scene from Die Hard 3.
In general, this is a unique film for the Pixar studio, and it’s simple unique. This is the first Pixar’s animation film where all the heroes are people, this is their first one with a PG rating. Yes, a children's animation with a PG rating, for scenes of violence and hints of a sexual nature. How do you like that?
I won’t describe the plot just not to spoil it and not to ruin your impression of viewing, if you suddenly spent the last 14 years on another planet and haven’t seen it yet))) I will say only one thing, the script is very, very good. He gives us beautiful characters with an understandable motivation for doing things and makes them feel empathy. And there are so wonderful and interesting dialogues. And of course an interesting and well-behaved insane villain. And it's just an interesting story any way. Agree we see this not so often)))
