However, the reality in India is something different. Bitcoins, though are traded to an extent and have created some success stories, it is more likely to be associated with the crimes.

During the period of demonetization, the money launderers posed invisible cyber threat to the nation's onslaught on black money, pedaling a risk-laden digital currency to tax thieves looking for safe hideouts for their illicit wealth.
Agents of the unrestricted online bitcoins marketplaces notoriously used by money-launderers and criminals for extortion, drugs and even supari killings -- were found to be facilitating investments from unaccounted wealth into the dark Internet tender.
Bitcoins, which remain beyond the reach of global regulators, are mined by computers, with their prices validated through a public ledger. Also known as crypto-currency, this digital money can be traded to buy and sell merchandise and services. The local dealers were found to be selling these bitcoins for the premium through India's bitcoin exchange Zebpay.

In addition to being the digital currency, the bitcoin was first named in the research conducted by the India's top anti fraud research firm called Indiaforensic, which highlighted that the Bitcoins are associated with the cases of selling the stolen data. Indian citizens have witnessed the ponzi schemes or investment schemes associated with the crypto currencies. Whether it is Ecoinplus or Onecoin, these ponzi schemes have left the bitter test for the Indians.
Though being optimistic is good but considering the practical situation is always better.
