Destination-Hopping Vacation- It’s Fun!!

in #india6 years ago

My husband’s dear friend’s wedding in Mangalore was our perfect timing to get rid from the hot and humid Delhi weather and work-life permeated with stress. Delhi weather in summers can be really tough and its just then that you need to run from the humdrum routine, then there is no better way to get in groove than a vacation.

And here we take off, Bye bye Delhi!!

Day 1- Mangalore

I was very excited for this fun holiday with 2 other couples, my husband’s college friends with their better-halves. Well, it was an absolutely crazy bunch. We got really comfortable in our Airbnb accommodation and had to remind ourselves that we have to attend the wedding also for which we all had come from different parts of India- Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore and Surat… 😊 It was the first South-Indian wedding that we all were attending and were quite excited about.

And here we are all ready to go for the ceremony, but a click first..:)!!

South Indian dining practices includes serving food on Banana leaves.

One thing that clearly defines the South- Indian wedding is its simplicity and piousness which is usually a morning affair unlike the weddings in North India.

Everything was so beautiful about this wedding- Our stunning couple, mesmerizing venue location, euphoric guests- Ladies dressed up elegantly in kanjeevaram sarees, The Decor, The live music and Authentic food. Sweet and Simple.

When you have this as the backdrop!!

Bidding goodbye to the couple's gorgeous wedding full of fun, we headed to some famous eating spots in Mangalore before we leave the city-

Pabba’s-
We went crazy over the ice-creams served at Pabba’s. It’s an Artisanal ice cream parlour which serves a range of ice cream sundaes made using fresh ingredients. One of the best places to treat yourself for sweet cravings.
Do try- Gadbad- Yes that’s the name but there is no Gadbad in it, go ahead and try.

This pretty one is Gadbad- Absolutely drooling!!

Girimanja’s-
If you are in Mangalore and want to experience the traditional taste of south Indian seafood this is the place. Even during the weekdays, this place is usually very crowded during the lunch hours and you would have to wait for your turn. They opened their family section for us which is just adjacent to the main restaurant. We ordered Surmai Fish for the starter- red and spicy looking. It was downright delicious.
Please note that the dishes are cooked in coconut oil but the fish was very-well marinated in the spices which over-ride the coconut smell. For people who are averse to the coconut oil taste just like me, you can try the chicken fry. I would definitely recommend this place for tourists who want to try the local flavors of Mangalorean cuisine.
The staff was extremely warm and fed us with extreme enthusiasm, suggesting dishes according to our taste. For the price, it is slightly steep but worth once a visit in your city stay.

Come and devour their food, you will love it!!

Taj Mahal cafe-
When in south India, you have to try filter coffee. It’s a must. Filter coffee also known as Kaapi, made by mixing frothed and boiled milk with the decoction obtained by brewing finely ground coffee powder in a traditional Indian filter. In South-Indian states, you will easily find filter coffee but this place is a must try if you want to have the authentic taste.

I am sure Mangalore has a lot more to offer but in our 1 day stay, we were able to explore the above 3 places including the wedding venues. :)

Our Day 2 experiences of the trip shall be unfolded in the next blog-post. Meanwhile Grab your coffee and enjoy this.. :) Also, do catch-up with my previous post on Pondicherry

Happy Sunday, Happy Reading!!
