Hanya rezim orde baru saja yang katanya petani begitu sejahtera. Bukan karena hasilnya yang swasembada saja, jika di hitung-hitung harganya pun zaman orba dulu itu cukup fantastis. Karena Rezim Seoharto tidak pernah mengimpor beras dari luar negeri yang kemudian merusak sejumlah harga hasil pertanian petani domestik.
Begitulah kami sebagai petani merinduinya kedatangan sosok pemimpin yang tidak hanya pandai beretorika soal harga panen petani. Tapi yang peduli ketika petani panen. Tapi yang peduli untuk setiap jengkal areal sawah yang memadati mukim kami. Bila perlu seperti yang dilakukan pemerintah Thailand.
Pemerintah disana begitu bekerja sama dengan rakyat untuk membasmi hama tanaman. Seminggu sekali, ada pesawat berukuran kecil yang menyemprot mengelilingi sejumlah areal pertanian. Jadi petani tidak lagi disibukkan untuk membeli semua pestisida dengan harga selangit. Belum lagi harga pupuk yang melebihi harga beras.
Kami sebagai rakyat kecil begitu ingin negeri ini ada seseorang yang begitu memperhatikan pertanian, begitu khawatir ketika hasil panen petani gagal. Kami sebagai petani, sangat memerlukan support dari pemerintah untuk mendukung hidup dan kesejahteraan pertanian, bukan menyalahkan tanaman yang ditanam oleh kami.
Sawah adalah kehidupan kami. Bercocok tanam adalah mata pencaharian kami sehari-hari sebagai petani. Namun, sudah sangat lama, kami petani hidup dalam jeratan kemiskinan, semua hal yang menyangkut dengan pertanian kini harus kami beli dengan harga mahal.
Misalkan bibit, pupuk, pestisida dan beberapa perawatan lainnya, yang terkadang kami terpaksa membelinya dengan berutang terlebih dahulu, dan berharap hasil panen dapat membayarkannya. Namun ketika panen, kami petani hanya tersisa hanya sedikit sekali, karena harga gabah atau hasil panen sangat murah harganya. Maka kami wajar jika sudah lama merindukan seorang pemimpin yang peduli dengan pertanian.

That is how we as farmers long for the arrival of a leader who is not only good at rhetoric about the harvest prices of farmers. But who cares when farmers harvest. But who cares about every inch of rice fields that pack our mukim. If necessary, as did the Thai government.
The government there is very working with the community to eradicate plant pests. Once a week, there are small planes that spray around a number of agricultural areas. So farmers are no longer busy buying all pesticides at exorbitant prices. Not to mention fertilizer prices that exceed rice prices.
We, as small people, want this country to have someone who cares deeply about agriculture, so worried when the farmers' crops fail. We, as farmers, really need support from the government to support the life and welfare of agriculture, not to blame the plants planted by us.
Rice fields are our lives. Planting is our daily livelihood as a farmer. However, it has been very long, we farmers live in the trap of poverty, all things related to agriculture must now be bought at high prices.
Think of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and some other treatments, which sometimes we are forced to buy by owing first, and hope the harvest can pay. But when we harvest, we only have very few farmers left, because the price of grain or yield is very cheap. So it's natural for us to miss a leader who cares about agriculture.
