Since the arrival of "hate speech laws" and speech codes, has civil society become more civil? Nope. Is there any measure by which such laws / codes can claim success? Hate hoaxes appear to have overtaken real instances of hateful action (whatever that is). The demand for hate appears to exceed its supply.
Hate speech laws erode liberty and expand government power. They incite violence instead of discourse. They create faux victimhood. They waste the time of law enforcement authorities, who should be protecting the citizens from criminals We need more speech not less. We need more debate and less outrage. The marketplace of ideas does not need to be regulated through hate speech laws and speech codes. My two cents.
