The country of Nigeria has indeed become a laughing stock owing to the past and recent happenings that have consistently been on the news. The recent one is that somewhere in the North as was reported, a member of the parliament has purportedly empowered his constituency with 5,000 shoe shining kits and bags of oranges with wheel barrows for orange hawkers. Shoe shining kits and bags of oranges? you might be asking, yes oh!! That is what the so-called parliamentarian provided for the youths and guess what? They were so excited and even praised him more than necessary. He even promised to do more for them if re-elected into office in 2019.

I remember another politician who came to a location announced and began to pack refuse from the surroundings in full glare of the people in that community just to trick them into voting him come 2019 election. I asked myself why didn’t he come since, its when elections are drawing near, that these so-called politicians begin to pull tricks just to garner votes from people and when they eventually win, they won’t keep those empty promises they made to the people and they become inaccessible to the plight of the masses that voted them into office.

Another picture I saw featured a political figure drinking water from the well and the elders and inhabitants of the community were very happy with him and vowed get him his desired spot in the government through their franchise(votes). Obviously he had bribed them with little money out of the abundance he dipped his hands to fetch fronm Government cofers.

The question I keep asking myself and haven’t gotten an answer is “why do Nigerians keep falling for the political mathematics of these parties”.

As I write this am so pained in my heart that the people have been enslaved due to lack of education and poverty. It is so clear that our leaders are very selfish Instead of our leaders to bring up better packages like education scholarships, incentives for graduates to start up businesses, they have succeeded in keeping Nigerians and especially the Nigerian youths in a continuous loop of poverty and enslavement.

Religion and tribalism has continued to be the major problems of this country and until there’s a paradigm shift from these vices, and then we vote a person of substance irrespective of tribal sentiments, religious sentiments and otherwise come 2019 elections, Nigeria will continue to go the downward trend.
