ADDENDUM:
When I wrote this article I presumed the main culprit was the US Military.
However, I failed to be a bit smarter about my assessment and should have posited the following:
Cui bono?
Who benenits from such an attack? Of course the US MIC does, but there are also others who would benefit (from starting a conflict with Iran). So I am adding them here along with how they would benefit:
Saudi Arabia: higher oil prices (their regime needs $100/barrel oil price just to break even)
UAE: higher oil prices
Israel: To draw the US into conflict with Iran - their archenemy and obstacle to their Greater Israel Plan which would geographically include regions of Iran. Israel assumes that the US and their military might always has their back and thus would expect them to defend their interests; in other words, it would be the US that would do their dirty work for them (as they have done on many previous occasions in the Middle East).
There could be others, but these are the main ones that would have benefited. Also, it is possible that any of these listed above could have worked complicity behind the scenes with the US, as it would be quite easy for US Intelligence to find out should they have acted alone in rogue fashion.
