No Civilian Guns!

You need to learn your history folks!

So a student took the above graduation photo and the internet went into its predictable tailspin. As usual people were saying they she doesn't need her AR-10 (yes its an AR-10 because it is chambered in .308/7.62 NATO) and that these guns only belong in the hands of the military and police. Well that's ironic because she graduated from Kent State.

History lesson for the idiots

On May 4th, 1970, a Kent State student protest to Nixon's Cambodian campaign was met with the national guard. Someone got spooked and after 67 shots were fired, 4 students came up dead with another 9 critically injured. Think about that. A group of unarmed students were fired upon by actual military and police which lead to the deaths of nonviolent protesters.

So next time you or someone else says that the guns belong only in the hands of the military and police, then take a moment to recognize that incidents like these will not only happen, but will not be preventable.

Just to better understand, if those students had guns it would have been better?

I don't think these incidents could ever be prevented fully. I am merely of the mind that these will happen less frequently when the government is afraid of the power of the citizens, and not the other way around. Bundy Ranch comes to mind.

Exactly, unfortunately it didn't work out so well for them.
I do understand though. The founders understood too.
I don't have the answers, I suppose people will always have to be leery of government and take whatever action is necessary to prevent tyranny..just wish there were another way.

Unfortunately I don't see that there is. The best hope we have is that the government would fear the power or an armed populace and will respect our rights in fear of backlash.
