Yeah that's a main goal for us too, I hate debt. once this pan is replaced the Compass will look like new if we replace the cracked windshield because the body and interior are in perfect condition.
Sounds smart, especially no new debt! Repairing and selling material to prepare better is wise. Get a bicycle with a motor for SHTF transport. The small truck is a good idea, especially if you set it up for alternate fuel.
Wood smoke generator, browne gas, or alcohol are some good options.

Browne gas is HHO. You get it by separating water electronically. It can NOT be stored, so it has to be made at point of use. But I have seen trucks runnung off of it. You have to find a fuel YOU can make, if the SHTF!
Then you can continue to fucntion....

I have a new design for a Browne Gas generator, a still for alcohol, and an electric generator that uses magnets for fuel.
This is on top of the solar and wind.
