Have you ever seen a grasshopper do the Thai Wai ...Thai Wai is what the Thai people do in manner of respect in greeting you or as to apologizing in some cases. Well funny thing i was going through my photo gallery and came across this photo that apparently my girlfriend at the time had taken a few years back.
I do remember that day we were sitting by the road at one of those street vendors and had just ordered a bowl of our tasty chicken soup when all of a sudden this huge grasshopper just decided to land on my hand of course depending what lands on my hand i found this one quite entertaining i have always loved grasshopper's as a kid and have never had the opportunity to be face on meeting with them as they are so quick to leap away.
Were as this particular grasshopper that hand landed on my hand had no intention of leaping away we were eye to eye contact and at that precise moment it put it's two front legs or little hands we will call them and gave me the Thai Wai as to say you don't mind if i rest here for a short while what respect from this little creature who ever imaged even grasshoppers were taught to do the Thai Wai and this little cunning creature even hang around for a photo shoot....amazing so cute i wanted to take him home and keep it as a pet.

Interesting and sad fact about these beautiful little creatures is that when the female grasshopper lays it's egg pod which may contain a couple of dozen eggs it will insert the egg pod a couple inches into the soil. After a long 9 months these eggs will hatch and the first baby grasshopper know as a Nymph will tunnel it's way through the soil up to the surface and the rest of the baby grasshoppers will follow. Once out in the big world they grow quickly to a adult grasshopper and will only live a few months how sad for such a beautiful insect most of there lives is spent inside a egg waiting to hatch...!!
After this little creature greeting us to Thailand and hanging around for his photo shoot he decided to say his goodbyes and of his merry way....nice experience had.

It is the praying mantis! They are very good to help protect the vegetable garden. My dad loves them. He took a video of one in our garden!
