INTERNET
The Internet is a giant network of computers that allows rapid communication between people around the world. Messages and information are sent by cable or satellite. Computers can be connected to the Internet through the telephone network or via cables and satellites. Two characteristics of the Internet are electronic mail and the World Wide Web, an immense store of information.
LINK AND SEARCH
Most personal computers connect to the Internet through a service provider, or local server. With a search program, or electronic index, you can find data on different computers in the world.
WWW-THE WORLDWIDE NETWORK
Almost all Internet information is published in the form of websites: encrypted files that are stored on a computer called a server. Each web page has its own location on the global network and links to other websites.
TO NAVIGATE
Cybercafés are equipped with computers so customers can grab and eat something while "browsing" the world network or sending emails.
INTERNET LANGUAGE
Internet users use special symbols and terms. Some are necessary for technical reasons. Others facilitate the use of the network or serve to have fun: * @: "Ar", indicates the location of an email user. * http: "Hypertext Transfer Protocol", rules by which the network works. * :-): This makes more sense if you look at it sideways: it means "happy". * WWW: Initials of "World Wide Wed", or worldwide network.
