World-Wide Lock-Down And The Increasing Load On The Internet

One of the scenario I would never have expected seems to be happening right now. We have all been so used to the services we enjoy on the Internet that we have almost become complacent.

We take it for granted and expect it to work always. And any disruption, in speeds or otherwise, irritates us instantly.

But who would have thought that the strain on the network caused by the recent worldwide lock-down is causing the big names in business to react! At present almost the whole world is home. And to pass time use of internet services like Youtube, Netfix etc., have soared.

For most families around the world, watching a movie or a video on streaming services, is one of the best option to while away some time.

But the strain seems to have also caught companies like Youtube and Netflix by surprise. These companies recently announced that they would be reducing their bit rate so that movies, or videos, are streamed in the SD format unlike the HD which everybody is used to.

And now companies like Whatsapp have put up some restrictions.

I have just learnt that we shall not be able to post videos longer than 15 secs on our status here in India. Though this restriction is only for the Indian user for now, it could be a precursor to a roll-out worldwide, later.

But whatever the case, it is evident that the strain on the internet, as we know it, is real. And I also hope that this will be an opportunity for people to see and fix things on the internet for the future.

All in all, it takes a virus to change our view regarding everything that has become a part of our life. And every indicator tells that things might change in the way we live from now on!

Good way to go, but unfortunately, not for the rest!😌
