I'm about halfway through my second month on Inleo and I have to say I'm surprisingly happy to be here. Now-a-days it's hard to find good stuff on the internet specially when it comes to #socialmedia and the #crypto community and here I feel I have found a good place for growth and the diffusion of ideas.
A Bit Of Nostalgia
Inleo reminds me of the golden days of the internet when we had real people interacting with each other and sharing ideas, when we had wholesome expression of the individual mind through blogs, memes, music, decorated profiles, and more. Social media was really social back then; it was a place to chat with friends and meet new people, it was a place to learn new things and explore new ways of seeing life. Maybe it's nostalgia guiding my thoughts on this or maybe it's true that the internet used to be better fifteen or twenty years ago, whatever the case may be it feels like it's making a comeback. I think that
comeback can start in #web3, I feel a revival of the golden age can be lead by platforms like #inleo.
Who remembers places like Limewire where you could download all the music you ever wanted, or how Tom was everyone's friend on #Myspace? Who remembers those long E-Mail chains with funny jokes that you would forward to friends, or those prank viruses that made poop appear on your computer screen? What an exciting and innocent time it was for the average internet user back then! There was just so many real things to discover and so much to be explored.
The Fall Of The Internet
I feel lucky and at the same time cursed to have experienced the internet more than twenty years ago, I was lucky to enjoy how good it used to be and cursed to watch it slowly degrade and die. And yes I know many of you will say that the internet is way better now than it was before, that you can now stream ultra-HD movies and download your videogames from Steam in a jiffy and that you are recommended all the things you love by the all-mighty algorithm. I don't deny that there are good things a bout the internet now, but it comes at a price.
I myself feel I've given up on mainstream social media, people have become self-absorbed, depressed, confused, and divided by it. The creation of original content and ideas has been plagued by monetization and political agendas, not that I think making a buck or two while you work is a bad thing, I just think we sometimes misplace the value of what we do. Sometimes it's about reaching people, touching hearts and minds, making bonds and building relationships with others through artistic expression, through the things we write and the things we say.
I remember spending so much time joining crypto groups on Facebook just to discover later on that they were full of scammers and get-rich-quick schemes. This may have not been an issue for all the crypto vets and pros out there, but for the common crypto noob like me it was such a deterrent when trying to become part of the crypto community.
The internet today is filled with useless crap that just preys on people, on their attention, wallets, and their data. We have perverts on #TikTok watching a million teenage girls twerk, we have #OnlyFans models preying on kids in platforms like #Twitch and #Facebook, we have thousands of organized #YouTube channels that plagiarize peoples' original content and create fake and misleading material, we have parents exploiting their kids on #Instagram, we have pornography preying on the minds of men, we have extreme #censorship on most platforms, we have government propaganda and surveillance everywhere we go. Everyone is trying to scam you, sell you something, influence you, steal your data, or even worse. Now-a-days everything is a scam, everything is clickbait, everything is ads, fake news, propaganda, revenue, views, clout, and #brainrot.
The Rise Of Inleo And The Future Of The Internet
Circling back to my original point, I'm glad to be here on Inleo, here I have found a very lively crypto community and a very diverse one at that. People here have been very helpful and welcoming, I have not encountered any bullying and ridiculing of other peoples' inexperience and difference of ideas. It is very refreshing to find such a place in today's internet and I am excited to see good things come to this platform. Everyone is so energetic and eager to make this place grow that it's hard not to feel the same way.
What a better place than Inleo to lead the charge forward and show the world that there is still good online. This platform has great potential to make a difference and really contribute to the future of the internet, to set a better standard than what we have been used to for the past decade. The time has come for a revival of the internet, the place is here and the time is now. So lets do this, lets keep the flow of original ideas, lets keep it decentralized and uncensored, lets give back power to our voices and to the individual mind. Lets make this work, in other words, lets make the internet great again! 😅
If you have read this far I extend my deepest gratitude. I also encourage you to share of your own experience on this subject as we can all learn something new from each other.
