You are not going to believe this:

I read (isn't it really red, but not the color??) that this is one of the clickbait sentences that whoever runs clickbait ads uses to get people to read their stuff. I am so tired. I am always the bridesmaid never the bride. I have been looking for a new job. I have a pretty impressive resume and I just can't seem to close the deal. I think I am everyone's number two, and that frankly feels shitty. I have applied for some many jobs I am the perfect candidate for and just can't seem to close it. The feedback I get is "the team loved you" but they wanted someone that had more cross functional knowledge of the position. ie the internal person that it's a stretch job for but they are a known commodity. I am a transplant with no inside network. It sucks. I am sure it's my fault but I just wanted to get it off my chest. Troll away....

I actually read this... so I guess it works?

P.S sorry about the job stuff. It's rough out there

You see, clickbaiting has been part of humanity for a long time. It wasn't called clickbaiting of course but fraud. Fishy doctors selling their snake oil, apparently curing every disease there is.
Nowadays everyone is doing it, even the news network. Writing every stupid thing to attract the attention of their prey.
"BREAKING NEWS: JUSTING BIEBER GOT SHOT" (and in reality someone threw an egg at him or whatever) This was just an example.

There is no truth anymore, the media was supposed to be for sharing information with the world. But today, we are drowning in overstimulating cartoons or fake news. We are becoming dependant of those things and we are too lazy to change anything. Why? Because it is entertaining.
We need drama, it is a change for our boring and repetetive lives. Another example would be a car accident. Everyone has too see it, driving past the crashed car to shoot some photos or record it.

Humanity is evolving back into its former state

A mindless animal.

It sounds like you're trying too hard. Usually, when that is the case, you do not have enough credentials or experience compared to other candidates. I wouldn't give up though either. What is your profession? How could you improve your credentials? You're stuck there and cannot move elsewhere?

I am a director of customer service. I have been doing various director level jobs in the bay area since I moved here four years ago and before that I was a Snr Manager at a computer hardware company.

Move to where the jobs are then? There are no ways to improve your credentials? I do IT, residential security consulting, and PI work, so I'm not sure how improving your credentials work.

As the other reply below suggested too, I would network. Almost every good job I've had in my life has come through knowing someone. I've landed a single job because of random interviewing without knowing someone in advance.

Are you socially active in your town? Meetups? Trade memberships? Conventions? I'm just trying to help too, so please don't read this the wrong way. It's hard to convey voice in text of course. :)

I don't read it the wrong way. I appreciate the suggestions. I am not very active in networking. I am trying to get better at it but the Bay Area meetups are so numerous it is tough to find a worth while one that isn't mass amounts of people just trying to network.

I am a transplant with no inside network.

Time to network. Find someone you know who knows someone who knows someone. If that fails, walk up to the manager of the department you want to work at and intro yourself.

If that fails, it's not meant for you, and life is trying to tell you to go beyond your boundaries. I really believe when a door closes another door is opened, and it's up to me(you) to find out that door. Maybe you're too closed to the new door opening (too sad about not getting the job, pouting, etc) that you don't see the new opportunity. Start telling yourself that you are open and receptive to new opportunities, and pretty soon you will start seeing them.
