When God spoke the world into existence, according to the biblical narrative, He did so in six days. When he had finished everything else, He formed the man, Adam. He then planted a garden and placed him in it. He gave specific instructions for Adam to enjoy the garden. Only one rule. He could not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He gave him a job, to keep the garden, and then God declared that it is not good for man to be alone. Up until this point, every commentary that God gave for his creation was good. Everything was good. This was not good that man should be alone, so he decided to make him a helper. So, God passed all the animals before Adam to see what name he would give it. Adam had the privilege of naming all the animals, and when there was not found a suitable helper for him, God put him in a deep sleep, took a bone from his side and sculpted the first woman. God did not take her from his head, so that she would rule over him. He did not take her from his heel so that he would walk on her, but rather from his side, so that they could be a companions. When Adam saw her, he said WOW!!!! She is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh. They were both naked and were not ashamed, the Bible says. God looked out on all His creation, and declared it very good.
If you were following along in the Bible, did you notice the gold and the rivers that were mentioned in Genesis 2:10-14. This grove was well nourished with water on every side. This was a valuable piece of real estate. His artwork is a masterpiece. The gold and the rivers gave the garden worth. It appears that he gave the very best to the first humans, and declared it is very good.
His attention to detail was immaculate, His design for everything He created was breathtaking, and I can only imagine that the angels in Heaven were speechless as they gazed on God's new world.
With every newborn baby God's handiwork is clearly seen. He values us. When we look in the mirror and think that we are worthless, it is a slap in His face. When we look at those around us and say or do things that take their value, we are insulting the God that created that person. No wonder He declared that whoever calls someone a fool is in danger (MT 5:22) He declared that the greatest commandment was to Love Him, and the second was to love others. He values us immensely, no matter the color of our skin, the language we speak or the place that we call home. He loves us more than we will ever know. Before Him, we have value. If He values us, we have value that cannot be taken away. When others choose not to recognize our value, we still have value because God said that we do. As we look to the summer months, lets be careful to ascribe value to everyone in our life.
