@Michelle.gent I am so glad you're doing better! I was really worried when you stopped writing. It's good to see you back here. We've lost way too many of us "originals" on this platform. Will you guys be making it to HiveFest in Amsterdam?

Lol. I thought that was better than "us old folks". : )
@ericvancewalton, thank you! It's been a long-haul and pretty scary at times. My mind isn't quite up to writing as prolifically as I did before, but like any muscle, it needs working to make it stronger. This is the first step and I'm so pleased I've made it thus far :)
I've not had chance to check out who is still around, but I'm sure I'll miss a few familiar faces too.
Because we have horses, dogs, cats and chickens (in the future), we'll need someone to house-sit for us if we venture away for any length of time. However, I'm almost certain we'll have a slew of volunteers to take over the duties. I'd love to get back to see everyone. I'll certainly make sure we take a serious look at getting there.
I can't even imagine what a scary fight it was but you are a tough one and I'm glad you beat it!
So many people are gone from here, if I were to venture a guess I would say maybe 15%-20% of the content creators from that first year are still active. It's not an easy thing to have the consistency it takes to stay current and keep the audience engaged. I stopped posting daily years ago and am lucky to get one post a week done sometimes. I'm still writing though. I'm glad people are still reading my stuff.
It's going to be a challenge for us to go to HiveFest too. Airfare is outrageous from America. But we have a ton of airline miles from trips we had to cancel due to the pandemic and we found ourselves looking for accommodations last night so we may end up going!
I'm glad I beat it too!
I've been trying to get my head around writing again. I'm not sure if it's because I'm so incredibly happy to be here (both on the planet and in France) that my mind isn't focussed on storytelling. I've taken the first two steps (although the second instalment I've just posted has brought some mixed feelings to the fore and both Trev and I are a little emotional).
I used to write up to 4 posts daily - I really was a full-time writer :D
I'm sure I won't be doing that again anytime soon... there's too much to do here. We have such plans!
I hope you make it to Hive Fest, I think we've committed ourselves to the trip now (although prices are still crazy, even from France!)
I hope to see you there, if not, and you're ever in France, let me know, we could possibly meet up.
I'm sure you just want to live your life and enjoy everything. I find myself spending less time in my head thinking about fiction and more time being present and enjoying life too. I think losing so much time during the pandemic and the loss of my dad had something to do with it for me.
You were super active doing four posts a day! In my heyday (2016/7) I would do one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
I'm excited for you! How wonderful to be living in France and having a fresh start. It's been a dream of mine to move overseas for years but doubt it will ever come to be. At least we get to travel and experience other parts of the world. I'm very grateful for that. We will definitely let you know if we find ourselves in France. How far from Paris are you? If we make it to Amsterdam we'll definitely see you then. It's not going to be easy for us to make that happen but it might all come together.
Ah, I'm the opposite (or at least, getting there). I want to write more fiction. The last few years, as I was getting progressively more ill, I've dropped the writing off and it's difficult to get back into it. There's just so much to do (look at/watch) here, that I'm finding it hard to drop into make-believe again.
France is wonderful (or the bit that I wander around is). Trev does the shopping etc. I'm not quite up to doing much and the heat saps my strength too. I hate that I don't have the energy, but there's not much to do about it yet. I'm getting better all the time (just not fast enough for my liking).
Travel while you can! Enjoy it all!
We're around 5 hours from Paris (don't do distance in miles/km these days, it's all time-relative). There's an airport 45 mins from us - Brive - and it does some international flights.
I hope you make it to Amsterdam, I think we're going this year. If only to see how far ahead Hive has gone and how much I don't know.
PS The property prices in France are astonishingly low compared to UK. I wonder how they compare to the US? ;)
I'm sure you'll find your writing groove again. I had horrible writer's block during part of the pandemic but the muse is back now, thankfully.
I bet France is amazing. The only time we were there was for a six hour layover in CDG on our way to Lisbon for SteemFest2. The culture and lifestyle there intrigues me, it's probably the closest to my ideal way of living. Oh wow, you're quite a ways from Paris!
Every day we don't make the arrangements for airfare for AMS it's going to get tougher for us to make it happen. We were optimistic a few weeks ago but it's fading a bit. We're in the process of selling our condo too and finding a new place to live so we're juggling a lot.
To be honest, I would move to France in a heartbeat but Raymi really has no interest in living there. At this point I just want a simple life and the freedom to travel. I'll be sure to let you know if we end up making it to Amsterdam!
The writing is coming, slowly. I'm trying to get back into the groove with posts on Hive.blog and it is starting to work.
France is amazing. It's like going back in time. I have memories from my childhood of endless days of weekends and summer where I would run across the fields to see the ponies every day. It didn't take too much effort to recapture those idyllic days, but I have more aches these days and less energy than I had.
There is a lot of history to be had here, as much as England, if not more. Trev has researched our family tree and I'm sure he'll be sharing some of that on Hive.blog. It makes fascinating reading.
I really do hope you make it to HiveFest. You and Ray are lovely and I enjoyed meeting you both so much.
If the quiet, slow, uncomplicated lifestyle is what you crave, I can't recommend France enough, but try to stick to the countryside, city living is just as hectic as anywhere else.
