First Step on the Steemit Road

in #introduce-yourself6 years ago (edited)

Hello Everyone

My name is Tristan Carmickle, I am a 17 year old high school senior. This is me!

Although I am still technically in high school I haven't been to school in roughly 6 months since the ~45 college credits I took my junior year covered nearly all of the credits that were left. I currently reside in Spokane, Washington with my parents and my step brother, who's the same age as me. Things here are quite underwhelming if I'm going to be honest, I wish I could say I enjoy the nature and irregular climate present here, but consequently with the low population and perpetually fluctuating climate there is almost never anything to do. Either that or because I would prefer to play video games over any of the potential alternatives.

My all time favorite of said video games would have to be League of Legends. I've played since I was 13, or Season 3, and recently my time played has ceased almost entirely. However, I do like to pride myself on the fact that I hit Diamond 2, 28 lp in Season 7. For those that don't play, that means I was roughly the top .1 percent, or ladder rank 4,000, of the ~2 million players in NA servers. Here is where I would include a screenshot but I was pretty confident I would be able to surpass that rank, until I plateaued and fell back to Diamond 5, so I guess you'll just have to trust me!

What Occupies My Time

If my time were a pie chart, it would look a lot like this.
I would like to think this pie chart isn't as depressing as it looks, because quantity of time used, doesn't effectly convey the quality of the time used. So even though writing is a pretty minor part of my life at 11.5% I still get around 2 pages of relatively high quality writing a day, and the time on YouTube is often spent on productive subjects involving other topics I'm interested in, which I'll elaborate on in a bit, as well as what I mean by "Work Related Things". Albeit the disproportionately small reading section is quite untenable, I just like to play video games more than I like to read, and since both are leisure activities I almost always go with video games (if you couldn't decipher from the pie chart).

Things I actually DO

I mentioned there were topics of interest for me outside of video games that one could argue as productive. A prime example of this would be real estate, which is a bit more work-esque than the other example which is my interest into philosophy, and psychology, and things of the sort -- so I'll go with the former. On YouTube there's a plethora of knowledge as I'm sure most everyone is aware, and within the platform I watch various people but mainly the two creators, Graham Stephan, and Meet Kevin. Both of which are realtors, both incredibly successful, and both put out incredibly actionable information. So within the roughly 20% of my time, a good portion is spent on apperception of the information given by the two.

Now on the whole philosophy and psychology bit, I'd argue this aspect is productive but significantly more recreational since it's a bit less mundane. Among those two incredibly vast subjects, the main thinkers I focus on would have to be Jordan Peterson, Carl Jung, and Friedrich Nietzsche. Of course I could go into the whole reasoning behind why these subjects interest me and one might even say, the philosophy behind it (here is your cue to laugh). But those subjects are far too vast to cover even a fragment of it in this introduction, but I can promise you I'll get around to it in the future.

And for the significantly less productive, albeit arguably necessary aspect of my life -- video games!

I primarily occupy my time with the game I'm sure practically everyone knows by now, Fortnite. I would like to think I'm relatively okay at the game, maybe like top 30% of players, since a large number of people playing haven't ever tried a game before. But there are also plenty of people better than me too. Either way, I really enjoy the game, since it offers the same dynamic League of Legends does, high skill ceiling, low skill floor. Which for those unfamiliar with the vernacular it pretty much means: if you're bad you can play, and if you're good, you can always get better. My in game name on both Fortnite and League of Legends is "Cooliofashizzle", feel free to add me I play quite frequently and I'd love to meet some of you!

"Work Related Things"

As a 17 year old, work isn't typically on the top of the list of concerns, but for me I would much rather hit the ground running instead of expect things to unfold in my favor. And anyone who knows me, knows that if in any situation something is left to chance, I'm the one with the short end of the stick -- but I won't let that stop me.

For now, I've currently purchased a drone, and a wide angle camera and the relevant accessories for the purpose of starting a business. The business is for real estate photography, primarily revolving around residential homes and commercial properties. In the future I would like to expand into wedding photography, or perhaps photography for events, or really anything that is potentially lucrative. But since this field is in its fairly nascent stages, drone photography I mean, the demand for it is quite high and the opportunities to be had are nearly everywhere. So for a 17 year old that would like to become a real estate agent, and move within the next couple years, and learn some new things, it manages to kill a lot of birds with one stone.

Another thing worth mentioning is that I'm going to purchase the relevant real estate course in order to become a real estate agent, as soon as I make enough from the business start up. And as I have a fair amount of connections in the field, and some necessary gregariousness, I'm hopeful for what is in the making regarding my "Work Related Things". The main reason I ended up choosing the fields I have is due to the flexibility it provides, which leads me to the next topic.

Why Steemit

My understanding of this platform is pretty minor even though it's been explained in great depth. I'd say my understanding is quite limited due to the lack of experience I personally have on the platform. But in what I do understand, I would say the potential of the platform in and of itself being based in cryptocurrency, and the efficacy of the UI and interactivity of the community, show quite a promising future for both the website and the community.

For me personally though, I would say that this would allow me to explore and learn a bit more about cryptocurrency, and provide me with a writing outlet which will likely help me to articulate my thoughts effectively. Also I more or less already write every day. Although my writing is generally pretty disjointed, I figured this kind of platform and community would enable me to put a place for my thoughts, but in a more articulate and reviewable fashion. Since usually I'm my only and quite frankly worst critic, I figured it might serve a purpose to expose my writing to the world, and potentially add some value to it -- ideally.

To You!

To everyone who ended up reading this far, I appreciate the time out of your day spent doing so. Hopefully this little introduction paints a decent picture of who I am, and who you'll see writing more posts in the near future. I would love to see some comments below from anyone who feels inclined to do so, discourse is always welcome. Also a shoutout to @shello for telling me about this website in the first place and helping me to get started! Anyways, I look forward to being a part of this community, and I hope you all have a good rest of your day!

Welcome to Steemit Land! Great to see you continuing to post more often now!

Thank you for the welcome!

How are you today?

Wow, this was amazing to read! I am so glad you found us on Discord and shared this post with us. This is very impressive and you seem to have a lot going for you, even if video games are at 50%, lol! It always great to see the younger generation coming to Steemit. This platform is a wonderful oppurtunity. There is so much knowledge shared here and plenty for you to learn! We are wishing for so much Steemit success to come your way.

I'm glad you think so too, haha. But like I said, there's a very important difference between quantity versus quality of time. I'm still working on getting the exact balance down (probably because I like video games too much) but I'm hopeful it won't be too much of a hindrance. I agree too, this platform definitely has a future in front of it. Knowledge is infinite, and to find a platform I can hope to add to, is something I am grateful for.

Thank you for the welcome! :)

Hello Tristan, welcome to Steemit! I had to scroll up twice to make sure you are really 17, you know with the stuff you have written in this post! Your mind and writing are so elaborate and impressive!

I love how you planned and learnt about the things you want to explore into, especially Steemit and also drone photography. Don't worry too much about Steemit, it's a friendly place and you will get the hang of it so long you are willing to stay long enough :) You may feel free to tag #greetersguild in your upcoming posts and I see you have already gotten acquainted with our @greetersguild Discord! :)

Since usually I'm my only and quite frankly worst critic, I figured it might serve a purpose to expose my writing to the world, and potentially add some value to it -- ideally.

All the best, and I can't wait to see what you can offer! Enjoy and be you, because as much as you will be benefited from this platform, we will be benefited by you too!

Thank you for the welcome! And thank you for the compliments, I've worked hard on writing as it's one of the few passions I have, and reading too has definitely assisted in that development.

I'm sure this will be a place I find my niche in, I'm looking forward to the variety of different things I can write on. There are plenty of different things I'd like to say my piece on for both myself and those around. But I'll be sure to use that tag, I'll graciously take whatever help I can find :)

Hope you enjoy my future posts, I'll be sure to put out my best quality! I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again for the welcome :)

Welcome to the steemit community! Everyone here is super nice and you'll love it! You seem to already have a good start😊 If you like arts and crafts or some good ole photography feel free to check out my page and maybe stay awhile :)
Upvoted!!

Ps. I’m also a high school senior (however tomorrow is my last day ever) and I admire how much you don’t go to school- I only had two classes due to my credit count as well

Thank you for the warm welcome, I've noticed already some of the kindness & I'm definitely loving it :) I do like those things, hopefully I'll be able to get some quality photography unrelated to work when I get my new camera, as it definitely is something I've always been interested in. Also if you would like any advice for how college compares to high school, at least in my experience, feel free to add me on discord @ Cooliofashizzle#3136!

P.S. Good job on that, smart work pays off.

Ah, I don’t have discord but you can def. follow me on Instagram @ kkbug5 !

I start college in the fall however I think I have a good idea on what it’s like, I’ve taken a few college courses!

Followed you on there! But I'm sure you'll be fine then :)

Welcome to steemit Tristan! Very engaging self-intro~ I think my pie chart at that age would have looked the same if you add the youtube time to gaming haha :D Good that you took the plunge to put your writing out there and I'm looking forward to reading more on your blog! Followed :)

Thank you for the welcome and the kind words! I'm sure most everyone spends most their time at my age in recreation anyways, so it's nice you can relate haha. I appreciate the follow :)

Fantastic introduction. Love the title. Looking forward to reading more.

Thank you :) and I'm working on it at the moment!

HI Tristan! Welcome to Steemit! Although, you should really be welcoming me because I just joined today Hahahaha. You're writing is coming along quite nicely; I have no doubt you'll be a first-class writer if you want to be. Great to hear that philosophy is among your interests; it's exceptionally important to be able to think critically. Don't ever be ashamed to "go there" with people - truth needs defenders, as it's under incessant attack. You appear to be a worthy ally for it. Hope you're enjoying your time here!

Welcome aboard, I've just started too haha. But philosophy is definitely something I've been interested in for quite some time. Truth is always something worth debating, that's for sure. Hope you enjoy your time here too! Thanks for the comment and welcome.

Hey, Tristan..impressive, man..Welcome! It is so nice to have you here with us. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I will be glad to try to help out if I can. Good luck!

(P.S. Glad you never gave into the "it's-cool-to-be-stupid" crap.)

Thank you for the welcome! I'll be sure to take you up on that offer in case I need to, but hopefully there won't be too many bumps in the road I can't circumvent, haha. In regards to your P.S., it has definitely been a challenge avoiding the dogma pervading the current school system, but I'm hopeful that at the consequence of social standing, the individuation will pay dividends in the future. Thanks again for the welcome!

Yea, most of "the super cool" will be in jail, or working at Mac Donald's when you drive up to the pick-up window in your Porsche with the girl that dumped him...lol...

Most of em I'm sure, but I'd hope that I'm well away from this place by the time I'm successful, haha.

Hello my Tristan, believe me when I tell you that video games are also an important part of my day, but here we are to help you organize so welcome to this great ocean! if you need some help in it, I invite you to be part of my community in which we will teach you everything we know to be successful on the platform and how to do things right.

Hello Carmickle, welcome to the steemit platform! Seeing that you are a teen, there is a community for the teenage bloggers which some of us(teens) created on STeemit so we can interact with each other and also we can help each other. If you are interested, give me your Twitter or Discord account name and I can give you more information about it.
Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome! And yeah I'd love to hear more about it, my discord name is Cooliofashizzle#3136 :)

I'm in Shelton, which is like 40 miles from Seattle. I'm from Oregon, was in college & was also in Vietnam. Love video games. Peterson mentions that there are two genders and that should be common sense and I love the philosophy and videos of @Stefan.Molyneux.

Heya Trist!

Although we've been great friends for quite some time, even I'm impressed by the quality of your introduction.

" I would like to think I'm relatively okay at the game, maybe like top 30% of players, since a large number of people playing haven't ever tried a game before."

I wish you saw my face reading that x'D

As far as the workings of the mind, social dynamics, learning, and photography go- I'm already looking forward to the variety of valuable insight you'll be bringing to Steemit.

Looking at this platform as a tool to better devlop your thoughts already tells me that you're gonna have a blast here.

That pie chart was pretty fire btw ♡

With love,
Shelloftw

A lot of people are often caught a bit off guard by my writing because I swear they think I'm dumb by the frequency of my more or less low key trolling when it comes to nearly everything. I'm sure you're familiar with that by now hahaha.

And I'm definitely looking forward to it, already working on my next post! & don't tell anybody but I had to research how to make a pie chart in excel so I could put it in here :P

Thanks for the comment too :)

Don't worry about it lmao, I also get weird looks for my optimism like an ignorant freak~

I can't wait to see what's in store—your secret is safe with me! :D

Hello Tristan Carmickle, thanks very much for sharing such a beautiful photo. I also mentioned you in my post. If you like it then please follow and upvote me, if you donot like it, then please message me in that post, then i will remove your information.

Don't often get told my photos are beautiful (as I'm assuming you're not talking about the pie chart), but either way thank you for the compliment, haha :) & I really appreciate the mention. I'll be sure to give it an upvote. Thank you for the comment!

Welcome @tristanchase on Steemit! I'm also a bit of a gamer myself and spends big chunk of time gaming, per se lol. I see you have 50% of your time devoted to gaming! I have to say I have not played League of Legends so I can't really comment whether I enjoy the game or not, but I like interactive gaming...and with Detroit Become Human just newly released on May 25 that I have been playing it like crazy lol. Have you heard of this game before? Anyways welcome welcome, and upvote your post to support. Come check out mine when you have time, stay connected~

Thank you for the welcome! But yeah, gaming has definitely always been a large portion of my time. I have heard of Detroit Become Human, but ever since I built my PC I've barely touched my PS4. It definitely looks interesting though. I will check some out now!

@tristanchase ahhh I see, PC gamer! My computer is not powerful enough for gaming, so needed PS4 console specifically for gaming instead. Ha, how do you like gaming on the PC?

Overall I enjoy it much more than I did the PS4, mainly because there's a sort of next level to competitiveness I suppose, haha. I've mostly played online games for the sake of competition, so there's a much higher skill ceiling that makes it way more fun imo!

@tristanchase competitive gamer lol! I don't think i can compete because i'd freak out too quickly. Come check out my feed as well I've just finished a round of Detroit Become Human PS4, gonna have to go back and re-play to see different outcomes but it's a pretty awesome game :)
