So it begins

Hello!

The eminent Polish poet Julian Tuwim wrote in his poem "To the critics":

"The city thoroughly pierces me!"

I don't remember when this became my own guiding thought in exploring the space of the city, but the words describe my sensitivity very accurately. It is with this thought in mind that I begin my adventure with this site.

I am Maciej and my main area of interest is the city of #Krakow. In my posts, I intend to cover architecture, art history and literature. I am also interested in urbex. A particular experience for me is crossing space on a bicycle. I very much hope that examples of my discoveries in the space of my hometown will prove interesting to you and will encourage you in your own explorations.

Mysterious, abandoned buildings in the neighbourhood, small, inconspicuous elements of space, passed by every day without much thought. Stop, take a look, hold your head high to see much more around you! Conscious and in-depth reflection on the space of streets and places that seem perfectly familiar to us gives a lot of satisfaction! I guarantee you that especially those places that we consider boring and predictable have a particularly high potential for surprising discoveries. In my case, it is especially the inconspicuous plaques on buildings and design elements. Objects and names whose origins many do not understand and do not care to discover. Things that are ephemeral, which any moment can disappear unnoticed from public space because someone didn't see the value in them. Streets that I have walked down millions of times, but I still want to get to know them better. I want them to tell me their stories, the stories of the people who inhabit them. I want to pass these stories on, and to be able to create my own private narrative about the city, made up of many tiny elements.

The city is also neglected, abandoned, dangerous places that are a sign of the times and the transformation of the surrounding space. But for me, above all, a city is a collection of a mass of inconspicuous objects, behind which there are often amazing stories. Isn't that exciting?

Let's dive into this adventure of discovering space together.

Hi Maciej, welcome to Hive.

What a coincidence, we will have a Hive meet up in Krakow on 7th October. It will be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know Hive better and meet more people to make your Hive journey more enjoyable. There will be many of us coming from overseas, perhaps you can even arrange a tour for us to show off your beautiful city. The meet up information can be found here, it would be lovely if you can join us as these Hive meet ups don't happen all the time.
