I’ve decided to 'decline' an invite to mod a popular cryptocurrency subreddits to allocate my free time to Steemit.

Would you like to learn why I decided to dedicate my free time to Steemit over being a Reddit Crypto Currency Moderator? If you like giveaway contests and would like a shot at winning a new factory sealed Ledger Wallet Nano S keep reading.

While I think most would jump at the chance to become a Reddit mod over being a minnow who has little chance of getting noticed, the truth is that I don't have the time or desire to be active on both platforms. With this being said, I am more interested in seeing what this newfangled platform is all about. I am hopeful that the best content can and will rise to the top as it typically does when you mash up topical content, discussions and voting mechanisms. I am also curious as to how monetary rewards play into things.

Proof of my Reddit Mod Invitation

I didn't apply to become a mod by applying like most do. My content and perspectives gave me credibility which resulted in receiving an invitation to moderate.

My name is Andrew, but for Steemit I went with the username Alakazam because my goal is to provide magical content. My vision is two-fold: I am here to share what I have learned since entering crypto back in 2012 by sharing interesting news, discussing projects and providing market tips as well as insights that I have learned along the way. I will also be sharing some of my personal and professional life experiences along the way. My posts will be sprinkled with randomness because there’s more to life than blockchain technology and the currencies that attempt to keep things afloat. Sure, money is nice, but it’s not something that motivates or influences my life all that much anymore. However, I am interested in seeing how much value can be gained and delegated by providing interesting content and taking part in building out this beta platform. I have a lot to learn as I have not fully translated the Steemit white paper into mouse clicks yet.

Hey Houdini, why should I read the rest of this?

I’ve been in Crypto (BTC) since 2012, but I also dabble in alt-coins. I guess you can say I enjoy strategic gambling and pleasure spiked with pain. My Steemit content will be wide-ranging from insightful, skeptical, optimistic, critical and sometimes controversial. I will never post FUD or shill coins that I hold. Shit, I will most likely call out my own holdings. Since taking things too seriously isn’t healthy don’t be surprised to see occasional gifs or memes that are relatable.

Finding the secret sauce amongst all that fairy dust.

I try to find and read one crypto white paper per night so I can find projects, tokens, and protocols worth exploring further. I am always refining my due diligence process. Doing so has enabled me to better understand who and what I am betting on. If anyone has read a white paper that you think is of quality please share with a comment or by tag me in your post. My bar is high so impress me by stating why you think the white paper has merit on its own. To me, a quality white paper conveys the project’s value proposition in a clear and concise manner without buzzwords and jargon. In a future post, I will provide tips on how I evaluate ICO, coins and tokens. It's all about creating good dialogue to learn from one another. We can look at charts, announcements, news, scams and look into speculation and debunk the far-fetched.

How did you get here?

While this is my first post on Steemit, I have come across this platform countless times while researching various coins and tokens. It’s a well-indexed site in a small corner of the Internet. Steemit analytics probably show that their traffic brings in massive amounts of organic crypto related traffic, but it probably also shows that their bounce rate ratio is on the high end of the spectrum. To someone who lands on Steemit from Google like I’ve done the content and overall discussions seem thin. I have personally bounced countless times, as I tend to gravitate toward more in-depth discussions. Hopefully, @ned, @dan, @sneak, @pkattera, @andrarchy, and @theoretical are working to increase the quality of content, curation, and discussion. As a new user who has been perusing for the last 2 weeks to find interesting users to follow, it seems like there's little correlation between the quality of content (post + comments) and rewards. Is it me or do things seem extremely disproportionate? Perhaps, when I understand the platform better I will dig deeper into the oddities I've noticed. I'm not here to rant about things I know little about (yet) so I hope more experienced users who I have recently come across like @jerrybanfield @jesta @contentjunkie @infovore @adsactly @pfunk @transisto @pharesim @brittuf @piedpiper @sterlinluxan @timcliff @cryptopassion @donkeypong @pressfortruth @snowflake @crypt0 @jamesc @louisthomas @firepower @papa-pepper @themarkymark can help me understand the dynamics of this platform and help me discovery interesting users.

I was so excited to join I cut the line to get my Steemit account instantly.

Well, as I mentioned above, I spend time on forums like reddit and hacker news so Steemit was worth checking out. I am a big believer in sites making use of blockchains. I have also read too much of what I like to call “white paper vapor” over the last year. Having the opportunity to use a functional site layered on top of blockchain technology truly excites me. I wasn’t able to create an account by using Steemit’s registration, but since I was so excited I didn’t mind paying my own way to create my Steemit account. I used @blocktrades to create my account and it cost me approximately $13.60 to become an instant member. I don’t know if this amount covered the entire cost of account creation or if it subsidizes the cost associated with onboarding new users. Anyway, I was impressed with @blocktrades / Kyle’s customer service. If he couldn’t answer my Steemit onboarding/registration question he was honest about knowing. I carry around two “loose” philosophies as I roam these crowded streets each day. (1) Everyone is dumb until they prove otherwise and (2) Trust is earned, not given. With this being said, Kyle earned my trust, which gave me confidence in using @blocktrades. It was a great experience.

How will my content improve your feed?

I am not sure it will. I am no @jerrybanfield. This dude is off-the-blockchain. By following me you will never get crypto related FUD or coin hype. You will get a reasonable perspective. I am usually the one who says what everyone is thinking but won’t say it. You may not like what I have to say about a coin you hold, but I call it like I see it. I also have no problem calling out my own holdings or even this platform if I think things can be improved. If I like a project, I will always give reasons to back up why I like a coin or token.

How will you help the Steemit ecosystem?

Once I understand this place, I would love to open up my code editor and build something simple yet useful. I don't know what it will be but it will solve a problem for either myself or this community. I want to learn about the pain points from users so please let me know.

It's gonna take more than magic to build something out of nothing.

As of today, I am the new kid on the Steemit blockchain with zero followers. I'm not one for attention but I think I am going to need more to make this work. My goal is to get enough followers to do physical item giveaways to those who engage by following, commenting, upvoting and resteeming my content. I am not sure how many followers I need in order to do a random drawing but my first item giveaway might be a factory sealed Ledger Wallet Nano S cold storage wallet.

In the near future (when I get some engaged followers), I plan to share and explain one indicator that I use to spot major dips and crashes before everything goes blood red. Anyone who knows how to open a coin tracker app will be able to learn how to use this indicator. Absolutely no chart analyzing is needed for the indicator I refer to as Sonar. It will show you how to determine where the market could be heading over the next 12-36 hours. Sonar is actually my first and last quick checks of the day to see where the market heading. Once you understand this indicator and what you are looking for you will be able to spot whale movement from the top of the chain (BTC) with accuracy. My other tips come from being able to spot trends, extracting EWT chart data and surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me. Will you join me?

Thanks for reading this. Please empower me by following, commenting, upvoting and or resteeming this.
