Learn the 3 Types of Headlines That Will Increase Your Steemit Clickthrough Rates

Foreword

Today I wanna talk about headlines, and how you can come up with great ones that will increase your clickthrough rates.

We all have a ton of troubles with headlines, well at least I know I do. If you didn't know already, people tend to use headlines to decided whether or not they will click on your blog post or comment and upvote your post, so coming up an attention grabbing headline is key to having your post opened which will more likely get upvoted. Remember that headlines aren't everything, a good post and content also goes a very long way.

Statistically, 80% of people who see a headline will read it but only 20% or less will click on it and read the content. I've seen this first hand when I was the editor of a news media website and the social media manager of the Facebook fan page that boasted over 1.3 million fans. These statistics are averages, and they might not be the case on Steemit, and without access to an analytics dashboard, we might never know what the actual clickthrough numbers are.

Now coming up with a headline that grabs attention isn't easy, especially considering that the average internet user has experienced clickbait in some way form or shape, and they have learned that headlines aren't always a good indicator of a good post or content. Thanks to news media websites like Buzzfeed and Business Insider, the average internet user has become apprehensive on whether or not they will click on a post, read it, and comment. If you're asking yourself if clickbait headlines still work, well, yes they do, but they tend to attract negative feedback for anyone who uses them.

The 3 Types of Headlines

Headlines need to be crafted with your specific audience in mind. Most copywriters would agree that there are 3 types of headlines geared towards 3 types of audience that someone should use to increase the clickthrough rate of their posts.

1. The Competing Headline

The first headline type is a competing headline. This type of headline tends to attract audiences that are more ambitious or antagonistic. A great example is, "Who Are Uber's Biggest Competitors?"

2. The Gain Driven Headline

The second type of headline is a gain driven headline. This type of headline tends to attract audiences that are looking for posts that they can benefit from. A great example of a gain driven headline is, "You're Hired! 26 Tips To Help You Score The Job You Want."

3. The You Can Do It Too Headline

And the third and last type of headline is a you can do it too headline. In my experience, these types of headlines tend to get the most open rates. I suspect that the you can do it too headlines work best because we are always looking for hope. A great example of a you can do it too headline is, "These Entrepreneurs Bounced Back After Bankruptcy."

Conclusion

Now that you know the 3 types of headlines, use them wisely and remember the golden rule of copywriting and marketing, no one cares about you, they care about themselves.
