Mantener una alineación adecuada es fundamental para preservar tanto la seguridad de tu coche como la vida útil de la banda de rodadura. Las alineaciones de las ruedas aseguran que las cuatro ruedas sean consistentes entre sí y estén optimizadas para un contacto máximo con la superficie de la carretera. La forma en que se orienta una rueda entu coche se divide en tres componentes principales; camber, caster y toe.
CAMBER
Es el ángulo que los neumático forman con respecto a la vertical al ver el vehículo por el frente o por detrás. La medición es expresada en grados, y es negativa cuando la parte superior de la rueda se inclina hacia dentro y positiva cuando se inclina hacia fuera.
El sistema de suspensión no puede compensar por la inclinación hacia fuera de la rueda al tomar curvas y no existe un número mágico para aplicar al ángulo camber que permita que las ruedas permanezcan verticales al andar en línea recta (para un desgaste más parejo) y permanecer perpendiculares a la carretera durante la toma de curvas con fuerza (para un mejor agarre).
El camber negativo se está haciendo popular por su apariencia visual. Las ventajas reales del camber negativo solo se aprecian según la conducción. Si eres un conductor afresivo, sin duda tendrás que llevar un camber negativo ;), ya que aumenta el agarre (grip) durante la curva.
No obstante llevar un camber negativo también tiene una principal desventaja, la aceleración en linea recta, ya que desafortunadamente reduce el contacto entre las ruedas y el asfalto.
Un ángulo camber apropiado que tome en cuenta el vehículo y la agresividad del conductor ayudará a balancear el desgaste, con el rendimiento del neumático al tomar curvas. La meta es utilizar suficiente camber negativo para proveer un buen rendimiento al tomar curvas, a la vez de no permitirle a la rueda poner mucha carga en el borde interno, a medida que anda en línea recta.
CONCLUSIÓN : El camber que debes usar depende de tu estilo de conducción :P
CASTER
El caster es un poco mas difícil de conceptializar, pero lo voy a intentar ^^. El caster se define como el ángulo creado por la inclinación hacia delante o atrás de una línea vertical que pasa por la parte de arriba hacia abajo del pivote de dirección al ver el vehículo de costado.
El caster es positivo si la linea forma un a´ngulo hacia delante (en sentido horario jeje), y negativo en sentido antihorario.
Normalmente, el caster positivo hace al vehículo mas estable a altas velocidades, y además incrementa la inclinación de los neumáticos al girar ( lo que hace aumentar el esfuerzo que hay que hacerle a la dirección, por cierto).
TOE
El toe es el concepto de este post mas fácil de visualizar!! El Toe identifica la dirección exacta hacia la cual las ruedas apuntan comparándolas con una línea vertical en el vehiculo, al ver las ruedas desde la parte superior. Tal vez lo veas mejor con la siguiente imagen:
El toe positivo se da cuento la parte delantera de ambos neumáticos se enfrentan (su mirada por decirlo asi, se junta). El toe positivo permite que ambas ruedas generen constantemente fuerza una con la otra, lo que reduce la capacidad de firo. Sin embargo, el toe positivo crea características de conducción más rectas.
