Chilling Tales for Dark Nights has become a member of the Steemit community!

Hello, my name is Craig Groshek. I am the creator and director of the horror/scary stories website and YouTube channel, Chilling Tales for Dark Nights, the Otis Jiry Channel, and the iTunes 5-star rated program, The Simply Scary Podcast!

I recently became aware of the fantastic community here at Steemit.com and couldn't wait to get involved!

My team and I have been producing high-quality audio horror entertainment for nearly 5 years. Our channel features 800+ video releases, and we've worked hard to accumulate 185,000+ subscribers over the course of the time we've been active, and 21.3 million views!

Our beginnings were humble. I personally started the channel to promote a book I had been writing which was to be similar in nature to the 1980s classic series, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. As an unknown author with no name recognition whatsoever, I envisioned standing out in the market by applying my audio production skills and producing my own audio book, with narrated versions of my stories, set to music and sound effects, a la old-fashioned radio theatre.

What the site and channel went onto become later is the thing of legends.

Within 5 months, I discovered a burgeoning community of amateur storytellers on YouTube, and a small army of talented voice actors and actresses attempting to reach clients by posting demo reels online. I found my first handful of voice talent by searching for "demo reels" on the site, in fact, and several of them are still with me today.

Before long, I began producing the work of other people, with their permission.

Fast forward five years, and we've produced two successful podcasts, generated more than $100k in revenue, and had the pleasure of working with literally hundreds of talented authors, voice talent, composers/musicians, artists/illustrators, and more!

In February 2017 we were able to raise $14.5K from fans to try and bring an animated series to life, which we had hoped to pitch to Netflix. Though our efforts fell short, we learned a lot, and became better for it.

In July 2017 we released our very first book, and officially entered into the publishing field.

And now, we're looking to create our first-ever video game, working with talented freelance programmers/designers found at Upwork.com.

We hold annual annual Evil Idol voice acting competitions to find new talent for our roster, and are always accepting story submissions and auditions!

For the most part, we're a volunteer organization. Though we've managed to do well over the years, cumulatively speaking, the inconsistency of YouTube advertising revenue (not to mention the recent "apocalypse" and crackdown on "non-advertiser-friendly" content), we try to keep costs low, and rely heavily on both our volunteers - and our fans - to keep ourselves operational.

We create our productions out of kitchens, bedrooms and basements on our PCs, tablets and laptops, and our voice talent spans the globe and nearly all 50 U.S. states.

We've had the pleasure of adapting creepypasta classics such as Jeff the Killer, Bedtime by Michael Whitehouse, and many more, and have had the opportunity to feature guest appearances by the likes of YouTube phenoms Markiplier, Tay Zonday, TheRPGMinx, and others, as well as New York Times best selling fantasy novel author, Patrick Rothfuss (all of which you can find free on our channel).

If you'd like to hear some of our work, we recommend our megamix compilation playlist, where we've compiled some of our best work into lengthy mix videos, or our audio portfolio playlist, which features our hand-picked "best of" material.

We're thrilled to join the community here at Steemit, and look forward to keeping fiction creepy, and everyone's blood running cold.

Horror fiction is alive and well, and we fully intend to bring radio theater back from the dead, and keep it that way.

And don't forget to....

Turn off the lights, and turn on the dark.
