The short amount of time I have been on Steemit I have noticed that some users are greedy, selfish, and just plain stuck up. I get it most of us are here to earn steem dollars and this might be our one chance at getting rich doing nothing. I have to stop there and just say LMAO.
Yes the point is to build as much Steem Power and earn as much from every interaction however, building solid relationships with others will get you much farther than you can imagine. Those that follow you have to like you in order for them to support you with upvotes or resteems. If you are not taking time to support your followers slowly but surly they will not support you.
My point is this. Take some time and invest in relationships with your followers. Building solid relationships will return a great deal on your investment.

Even for me it is the relationship that comes above everything else.
Money is alluring yet secondary.
A good connection and lovely time is all we crave for.
And Steemit, personally, offers me that! :)

I have to agree with you, since I have joined I have met several new people that I am becoming friends with. If I didnt join Steemit I might not have ever met them. The money expect of Steemit drew me in but the friendships I am making keeps me coming back. Realistically users like me wont get rich quick but we will meet and connect with hundreds of people we might not have other wise.
