Hello, World!

in #introduceyourself10 years ago (edited)

I'm Gandalf.
That's not my real name, but even my mom saved my number as Gandalf in her phone contact list.
That counts, right?
I'm an IT Wizard, system admin, happily married, owner of a cat.
Owned by a cat.

Nyunya

Nyunya (The Cat) wants to watch everything I do, that's just her way of lending a helping paw. I’m not sure if she is so fascinated by what I do or she wants to make sure I do it right.

Why am I here? What is my motivation?
Not much different from that guiding my cat:
Curiosity and to be a witness (node?) of what is emerging here.

May the STEEM be with you!

Can i ask what your secret was to get 59 upvotes and $270 for this post? could you check mine and let me know? beauitful cat btw, i have one named roxy that sleeps on my head lol

That was one year ago when there was not that many content and easier to get some attention I suppose, and a lot of heavy staked active users around.
As far as I can see you are downvoted by some accounts because of your referral links to some mining services. That's subjective thing I suppose. I don't see much harm in this (except of most likely wasting money in most cases). Also, please avoid using copied material (including photos, especially without proper attribution where needed). Original content is apprieciated here.
Good luck :-)

your very nice cat vd

Nice, I understand the "owned by a cat" sentiment. haha

Cats, humans , all we move for instinct and curiosity. Welcome! And your cat also!:P

Welcome to Steemit Gandalf!

Very cute post, funny too! Luv your cat :) Keep up the good work!

Hello @gtg :)

This is a beautiful cat.
Does this little bell it has on its neck not bother the cat, or the owners? ;)
I am the cat person myself.

I hope to see more of your private, non-witness posts in the future, maybe from @gandalf account.

All the best to you.

Hello, @gtg With respect.
I found something interesting and a bit confusing about your post. When I check it on the Hive blockchain through hive.blog, it shows as being around 10 years old. However, when I view it on hivepostify.cloud, it says it’s from 9 years ago.

At the same time, if we consider Hive’s official creation date, it is March 20, 2020. As of today (30/03/2026), that makes Hive about 6 to 7 years old. But your post seems to be 9 to 10 years old, which confuses me.

I know that Hive was created after Steem. My question is: was there a snapshot taken from Steem that continued on Hive with a new name, or is there another reason for this difference in dates? I would really appreciate your clarification on this.

I am genuinely interested in learning. I have only been on Hive for about a year, but I want to understand things properly and in depth. Based on my observation, this might be one of your earliest posts, although I am not completely sure yet.

Actually, I am building a tool that will help display old posts, especially to identify the first posts of accounts. That’s why I am studying content from experienced and respected users like you. Reading your older posts helps me learn new things and gain a better understanding.

It’s also possible that the dates shown by Google or different platforms are not fully accurate, which is why I want to verify everything correctly.

Honestly, based on the tone of your post, my natural reply would be ‘Welcome to Hive.’ But since you are clearly a long-time and experienced user, that would be quite funny!

I hope you don’t mind my questions. I understand you might be busy, and I usually don’t reach out like this, but I will be waiting for your reply.

I truly want to learn from experienced and respected members like you who have helped grow this community.

Hive forked from the legacy platform, continuing its chain of blocks, so that's why I was writing about the age of the platform and age of Hive itself. We have same root, chain continued to exist with the history. Use block explorer such as https://explore.openhive.network to see all the blocks and their timestamps (although it can take you few years to browse one by one ;-) )

Hello @gtg,

Thank you for your clear and helpful explanation. It really helped me understand how Hive continued from Steem and why older posts still show their original timestamps. The fact that the chain history stayed intact after the fork makes things much clearer now.

I also explored your old post, and it was a great experience to go back almost 10 years. I checked several other old posts as well, and one thing really surprised me. When I looked at the voters from that time, I noticed that a large percentage of those users are no longer active today.

Based on my observation, it seems like around 90 to 95% of the accounts that were active back then are now inactive or haven’t been active for a very long time. Many of their last activities are years old. It shows how much the ecosystem has changed over time.

At the same time, it also highlights how valuable it is to still see some long-time users like you who have remained part of the journey.

I am still learning and exploring, and your guidance really means a lot to me. Thank you again for taking the time to explain this.

Best regards.
