I would be interested in trying this out. Does this require that you upvote yourself for the post you want upvoted and then it knows which post to upvote, or does it simply upvote the first post you make and there is no need for self-upvote?

You don't have to Upvote anything. After your delegation is done, you will be Upvoted by @steemraiser every day. Just one post per day. You can post 1, 2, 3.. 6 post per day, but just one will be Upvoted.
Interesting, OK. That seems pretty convenient and another different system to try.
