I've been on Steemit for some time now, although I haven't posted much consistently. I would just like to reintroduce myself.
At heart I'm a simple man that only ever wanted to live a simple, straightforward life. But often within this extravagantly convoluted and insensible world the plainest of aims can become baffling; and the purest, most honest dreams, disfigured.
To avoid the fate of tarnished dreams an act of faith and courage is sometimes required.
My girlfriend and I are very close and have been together for 16 years. We've worked alongside each other in various jobs more often than not.
After many years the growing weariness and distress of work was piling up. The everyday routine and underlying fruitlessness of conventional employment compelled us to do something drastic.
At the time we were working in a vegan kitchen for a rapidly expanding business in Montreal, Canada. Things were pretty good for awhile. The owner and upper management loved us. We were hard and experienced workers and got promoted to supervisors. As business boomed, more workers and more managers got hired. One treacherous person in particular began to poison the well. She didn't like it that we labored unpretentiously and focused singularly on the work. She would walk with her hands behind her back during her visits to the kitchen like an emperor, scheduling prolonged meetings and outlining theoretical, trivial and unworkable plans.
The job became swamped in politics and games. We were but simple, rustic laborers and our loyalty was to the work, and the work alone.
We weren't quite ready to quit our jobs, but we did it anyway. We had a little money saved and bought one way tickets to Mexico. We heard of a burgeoning gathering of anarchists in Acapulco and after a meandering sojourn in the Yucatan area for almost a month; we finally landed in Acapulco.
Acapulco is like a paradise in the middle of nowhere. Full of beautiful gleaming ocean bay views and lush surrounding hills. It's a busy place full of energy.

Tourism appeared to be in a big slump. The mainstream news touted the dangers and risks of travelling to Mexico; and Acapulco had become murder capital. We barely saw any foreigners anywhere along the streets. Almost all tourism to the city came from Mexico City these days.

We spent the first 2 months in Las Playas, where solely the locals and other folk from Mexico hang out. It was pretty crazy.
After some time we made contact with one of the anarchists living in the hills. They knew someone that rented an awesome place with an apartment available and our dream of finding root in Acapulco became a reality.
Our savings had run out some time ago and we were making a living and supporting our lifestyle exclusively from the money we made from Steemit.
Life had become simple and straightforward again. Our days were now filled with agreeable trips to the market for food and relaxing stays at the nearby beach.
Our friendly neighbors greeted us as we journeyed to and fro; and every night as the stars came out to shine over the city and the bay we would marvel at our good luck.
Lamentably however our 6 month tourist card is just a few short weeks from expiring; and we have to leave the country. How we are going to do that is still mystery to us. Acapulco is far way from any borders. The recent months have flown by so quickly; it feels like we just got here and are just getting started.
We are undecided on whether to go back to Canada and return again. We're not exactly looking forward to it. A friend up there ask me whether it's dangerous here in Acapulco. I told him I find the Canadian P.C police far more terrorizing than any Mexican cartel bandit. I miss the simple life already.

Hi there @marcgilles sometimes we need to give up one thing that we love in order to start a new beginning. I heard Acapulco is a nice place and the food as well. And I was really surprised when you say you have been together for 16 years, that's an achievement, not all couple can last for that long but you made it work, I want to know the secret. =)
Hi @purepinay, thank you for your comment. There's no secret to love it just happens. My girlfriend is actually 15 years older than me; which makes it even stranger to most people, sometimes you just meet the right person.

Love doesn't require any age, it doesn't matter. It is love that is a very powerful emotion that we one can experience. Stay happy and have fun on your Steemit journey!
