Hello Steemit!

Hello Steemit! My name is Marloes van der Waal, 34 years old and living in the Netherlands. Thanks to my fiancé @bennierex and his friends @exyle, @eqko and @s3rg3 also known as @blockbrothers for introducing me. They are all very excited about Steem it! So I got curious and now I am here

I am a proud mom of two boys, 7 and 4 years old. In 2006 I graduated as a midwife and 2010 as a ultrasound technician. I combine these two professions in my own practice, witch I run with 4 colleagues.

The Netherlands is not only famous for its tulips and windmills, its maternity system is just as outstanding. The Dutch tradition of free choice of place of birth, including home birth, is quite unique in the western world. I am really proud to be part of this.

In my blogs I will show you a glimp of my life as a mom and midwife in the Netherlands. Hope you will follow me.

See you!

Welcome to Steemit! I hope you'll enjoy your stay here :-)

I'm happy we have this free choice of child birth here in the Netherlands, but if I were to ever get over my fear of child birth, I would at the very least want to have it in a hospital. I think I'd feel more comfortable there, knowing any needed help is close-by. Still not sure if I ever want to have children though!

Thanks for your post and vote! The choice for children should not depend on the fear of giving birth. Have confidence in your body. It has been made possible to do this. Of course there are always exceptions. Unfortunately, you often only hear the bad stories. Fortunately, it often goes well! Good guidance and care is important in this and that is what I care for as a midwife. Research has shown that it is not necessarily more dangerous to give birth at home! That is partly due to the good education of midwives. In the Netherlands, the gynecologist is not in the hospital 24/7 and must also be called at home in case of emergency. You then also have a delay. It is important to choose a place where you feel most comfortable / relaxed. Your body makes the best contractions there and is therefore the best place to give birth.

Welcome @mlvanderwaal The New BlockSister...........

Hi there!! So lovely to have you here!! I live in ireland where bodily autonomy is sadly lacking for pregnant women. I have had two freebirths here down to our extremely restrictive birthing laws and the 8th amendment. Looking forward to reading your posts xxx

Thanks! A friend of mine worked as a dutch midwife in Kilkenny. So I know the stories... It's sad. The world is becoming increasingly anxious about giving birth. Women lose confidence in their own body. I also notice this in the Netherlands. The demand for pain relief, for example, is increasing very much in recent years. The more anxious you are during your delivery, the less painkillers your body produces. That is why good guidance is important. Someone who stays with you, coaches and tells you how to relax. The wee will get better and your body will produce more painkillers. That is where the power of birth is.

Welcome to Steemit, may you enjoy your time here meeting new friends with similar interests as you. Your job must be amazing and very fulfilling too.

Thank you, it is! Love my job :)

Hey Marloes!!!! Welcome to the club. Enjoy your stay and I'm already curious about your next post. Thanx for supporting our blockbrothers project as well. We appreciate your patience!

Hello, welcome to steemit! I am also new here, and need to do my introduce yourself post here soon so people can meet me and help me adapt to the steemit community :)

Welcome in steemit. Been in Netherland quite often, there is always some new interesting things I find in each visit :)

Thanks and nice to hear that you like Holland :)

Hello, Marloes, and welcome to Steemit.

Sure, the Netherlands is famous for its tulips and windmills, but it is also known for many things that are greater than flowers and mills (and klompen). It has a great education system, a free, open, and equitable society, and more than a few great artists.

(And, of course, it produces gouda cheese and salted licorice dropjes, which the world should be thankful for. Yes, I am of Dutch heritage.)

With your double degrees and your insights into Dutch culture and more, maybe you can become one of the Dutch Ambassadors on this Steemit platform.

Best of luck, and Full Steem Ahead.

Hi again

Below are a few basic points of advice re posting on Steemit.

  1. Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of 20–30 paragraphs, it's more likely to earn rewards.
  2. Include some photos, images or graphs, to complement the text.
  3. Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

Haha thanks!

Welcome to steemit! I see you are in good company upon arrival!

Looking forward to some medical and midwife posts from you.

Welkom mede-nederlanders!
Heel veel succes en vooral plezier op dit platform!
