For about 3 years now, we have been looking for ways to gradually raise funds for STEM research. We have tried talking to people about it, fundraising sites and personal finance all of which have been underwhelming.
A month ago, @stanleyc-md came across steemit through a friend and joined. So far it has been productive. The support for STEM research and posts here is quite extraordinary which is why this account has been created and dedicated to raising funds for our research projects.
This is the Neo-STEM Research Project.
So far we have a Doctor on the team (@stanleyc-md). His work is focused on cell-specific cancer research. Still in the theoretical phase, his work is based on the idea of directly targetting only markers cancer cells. The cancer cells (alone) would absorb a preinjected drug (sort of like a contrast for X-ray and CT) and then these cells made specifically visible to a second cytotoxic drugs which kills them (the cancer cells) thereby preserving normal cells. Plans are currently being made to procure tissue samples from hospitals.
There is currently a Physicist on the team working on energy conversion and storage efficiency. The aim of his work is to develop small, compact energy cells capable of storing very large amounts of energy, easy to transport and handle, and use to power individual homes and communities especially in areas without access or with minimal access to power supply. The practical application is limitless.
Our Computer Scientist and networking expert would be working on overseeing the software programs needed to make individual projects work efficiently as well as linking information under a central mainframe to improve accessibility. He will also be taking care of cybersecurity.
At the moment, microbiologists are being screened as well as an Engineer specialized in Energy and Petroleum. They will be working on plastics and other petroleum products; to recycle them. Their work will focus on microorganisms (biological and non biological) that will breakdown petroleum based products to their most basic and environmentally friendly components. The resulting components like pure carbon used in making other useful everyday products. There are other individual projects that we are considering, however these are the ones that will be the focus for now.
This is a team of Scientists focused on environmentally friendly projects; improving and saving lives and making the world a better place. We are a team of Nigerians, inviting scientists from other countries to join us. Hopefully our facility will be up and running before the end of the year.
The members of our team will dedicate some of their time to organizing free educational and training programs to help underprivileged members of the community and encourage them to join the movement to truly make this world better.
