========================================

As well as helping run Pirate Food Company and working in the garden the Capt'n also likes to spend his time on some creative projects. The Zombie Invasions board game is one such endeavour.
As it has never been blogged about before here on PFC I thought it a good idea to make an introduceyourself post so I can explain what the game is about, explain what I need to move forward and how you may be able to help me.

Are you interested in tabletop/board gaming, miniatures and miniature terrain construction and or zombies?
If so we urge you to keep reading.

Test Gamers Wanted!

Are you interested in test gaming?
I can offer you the digital files for the game but you will then have to print out and put together the game yourself.
Sadly this offer seems to put people off.
If it does not put you off then please comment below and we can take it from there.

Eventually, as in the past, I will produce some more fully constructed games for sale.

To be a good test gamer you will have to record and provide evidence for the games you play with friends.
Gather opinions and suggestions from people you introduce the game too.
Communicate with me clearly about your findings.

Although I have sold multiple copies of the Basic Game over the last few years I have received zero feedback.
I suspect that it is due to the fact I have been selling the game printed but not constructed.
The labour to construct the game has been too much for people or they have been unable to find enough friends to play a game. I suspect there will be more than a few of my rulebooks gathering dust on selves.

What is Zombie Invasions

I first created the concept of the game back in 2006. While staying in a hostel in Napier, New Zealand myself and other inmates were picking apples during the week and playing a lot of Risk on the weekend. It was Risk or Monopoly. No choice surely. After one weekend where we managed three full games of world domination, I became determined to create another board game for us you play. And so Zombie Invasions was born.
For the first round of test gaming, the board measured only about 15 cm square and the pieces were salvaged from other games. The survivor (still living) players took charge of magnetic travel chess pieces and the zombies were represented with Rick Soldier pieces.
Between five people we managed to put together a basic ruleset for melee and ranged combat. We even had rules for driving vehicles with scrolling terrain.

Over the next few years, I worked more on what I had created but always pressured by work commitments and a wanderlust tendency found little time to make it a completed game let alone find a stable group of people willing to play many test games.

Then in 2014 with help from my partner providing artwork and support, I finally completed a fully working Basic Game.

Zombie Invasions Basic Game

ZI is a zombie apocalypse survival horror board game and combat system developed by Frugal Rock Games.
The Basic Game allows for 2-5 players to take on the roles of Survivors or Zombies in a strategic turn-based fight for survival or domination.
Survivors must employ their wits and a selection of simple melee weapons in order to defeat wave after wave of shambling nightmares.
Meanwhile, the Zombie Master who takes control of the horde must use superior numbers and devastating attacks to bring the survivors down at any cost.
The game is designed to bring fun, strategic thinking, and competitiveness to the table top and can be enjoyed by anyone from the recommended age of 14 and up.
The basic game includes an extensive rulebook and all the cards, tokens and counters needed to play.

All artwork for the game has been provided by the very talented Judy Innes of @borganic.
Check out her art for sale here.

A game in progress.

For now, the ZI Basic Game only has rules for using melee weapons.
Eventually, rules for ranged combat will be included.

'Taking down Zed from a distance is preferable to just about anything.'

Thank you for taking the time to check this post out.

Looks really nice. Especially the cards seem to be high quality.
Reminds me a bit on "Zombies!!!" (https://www.amazon.de/Pegasus-Spiele-54100G-Zombies-2nd/dp/B001Q9ERMQ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1520237566&sr=8-5)

Any future plans for that?
You maybe should consider 3D-Printing the models ;)

Thank you for your compliments. ZI is much more in depth than "Zombies!!!". It is a fully integrated combat system. Do you want to take down a Zombie with a flying head kick or a trojan punch through the torso? Well, it should be pretty easy to figure out how to implement such actions in the rules. Although the Basic Game doesn't come with anything that advanced. If "Zombies!!!" is like Monopoly with the living dead then ZI is more like Necromunda (Games Workshop tabletop battle system) where you definitely don't pass go to win. The game ends when you do. Future plans include story mode/campaign, more weapons and new rulesets to include guns and explosions. 3-D printing is a possibility but a distraction at this stage. Simple card counters are good enough for now.

Oh, ok. Some more advanced rules than Zombies!!! would be appreciated :D

Great post! It takes two of my favorite things and combines them - board games and horror. Let me check with the group we play board games with and see if they want to give it a try.
Wish you the best of luck with development of the game. Definitely look forward to hearing more about it.

Thank you so much. Currently trying to put together a games club for people in my local area while building more of the mini map city. Let me know what your group thinks.
