Takengon is the capital of Central Aceh District, Aceh Province, Indonesia. Takengon is located on the side of Lake Lut Tawarkecamatan Lut Tawar in the middle of the province of Aceh. Takengon is a cool highland plateau with a height of about 1200 m above sea level. In the vicinity of Takengon there are many tourist attractions, including Lut Tawar Lake in Lut Tawar sub-district, Bebesen sub-district and Kebayakan sub-district, Pukes Pukes cave in Kecamatan Kebayakan and Pantan Terong in Bebesen sub-district.
Most of the population is from the Gayo tribe. In addition there are other tribes, such as Aceh Tribe, Tribe of Java, Tribe Minang, Batak Tribe, Tribe Tionghoa. 99 percent of the people of Central Aceh are Moslems.
Generally, Gayo people, known from their very nature are strongly opposed to all forms of colonialism. This area was once known as a region that strongly opposed the Dutch colonial government. Gayo society is a strong Muslim. People in Gayo many who keep buffalo, so there is a saying if you see a lot of buffalo in Aceh then that person was in Gayo.
