Description omitin (omeprazole) is a new class of antisecretory compound the substituted banzimidazole having no anticholinergic or H2-histamine antagonistic properties .it inhibits gastric acid secretion by irreversible blocking H+/K+-ATP ase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parital cell. Because this enzyme system is regarded as the acid (proton) pump within the gastric mucosa omeprazole has been characterized as a gastric acid pump inhibitor, in the it blocks the final step of acid production.

Indication:
Omiti is indicated for the treatment of gastric gastric cnd duodenal ulcer and ulcer those are caused by NSAIDs therapy, erosive reflux oesophagitis and for disorders associated with hyper secretion of gastric acids such as Zollinger Ellison Syndrome

Gastric and Duodenal ulcers:
Omitin 20 mg dally for 4 weeks in duodenal ulceration and 8 week in gastric ulceration. In severe cases the dose may be increation up to 40 mg daily . Long term use is not reommensded.
Use in pregnancy and lactation
There is no adverse effect of omeprazole on pregnancy or on the health of the fetus / newborn child . omeprazole can be used during pregnancy. Omeprazole is excreted in breast milk but is not likely to influence the child when therapeutic doses ate used.
