Blender seems to be a good program. I downloaded it and used it a little. I can't think of other programs right now but I do know Blender is good. For art, I use a program called Inkscape and also GIMP Image Editor.

@joeyarnoldvn Blender is most definitely a great program. It can make really good models for literally anything you want, it has possibly the best particle system, and you can make animations in it as well!
