Moi!

Since I am new here, I thought I would take a minute to introduce myself.

Hi!

My name is Héctor, and if you wonder, that accent is how my name is spelled. It is a Spanish name with Roman and Greek origins. Hector, you see, was the son of Priam, king of Troy, and he stood against the Greeks and was killed, eventually, by Achilles and his body was shown great disrespect until his father, Priam, approached Achilles and begged for his son's body back so it could be properly sent off to the underworld as per Trojan custom. Achilles, feeling bad for the old man, though heaven knows he'd been acting like a total dick until now, relented and allowed the old King to take his son home.

So, that's my name! 😜

I am a Hellenistos, a Pagan of the Hellenic or Greek type, but I am not, myself, Greek. I was born in Puerto Rico, in a small city called San Sebastian del Pepino in the West Central part of the island.

Yes, I am very disheartened at the way the US, under President Trump, has treated the island of my birth with such disdain after the tragic calamity that was Hurricane Maria. We are Americans, we Puerto Ricans, and most of us can't help wondering if our Spanish language and heritage might not be contributing to this administration's lack of enthusiasm in helping the island recover.

Just think about it.

I glossed over Pagan because it can get complicated, but the basics are this. I am not a Christian, I reject monotheism and Abrahamic Monotheism in particular, and find that the Hellenic Mythos offers me the best clues as to the nature of divinity. A divinity that actually makes sense and is not the destroyer of the human spirit.

I am also a big homo! Yup, I am a man who likes to get it on with other men. But, let's be honest with each other, if it were just about getting it on it would not be an issue for so many ignoramuses, would it. It's about love, companionship, friendship, small gestures of kindness, large expressions of undying love and affection. It is those things, not some random fucking, that really upsets the ignoramuses.

As you can probably tell by now, I speak English well, I also speak Spanish and Portuguese and have a working, if lessening, knowledge of French and Italian, and some basic Greek. I love languages, but around these parts there don't seem to be a lot of language nerds for me to play with...

I am much more than all of this, but this is already too long an introduction, right? Odds are you gave up about half way through. The irony is that in person, I tend to be rather quiet.

Go figure!
