There are those who teach that the saint of God may reach a state of such spiritual maturity that one may exist without so much as contemplating a singular thought that would be contrary to God's will.
Sinless perfection achieved, not imputed by faith but accomplished by effort plus faith?
They must have never read the above verse.Just imagine the arrogance of a mortal , believing that the Lord, who knows all , and who judges righteously, not by outward appearances but by the deepest thoughts of the heart, would look upon them and say "Ahh perfection!"
Jesus came because we were all condemned already not to condemn us. "HE Became sin for us, he who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” - not in our efforts whether aided or not, but through the work of God.
John Wesley, for instance , believed that sinless perfection could be achieved in this life and that that perfection was the assurance of salvation. In order to believe this he ignored sins of ignorance.
Imagine if you will, having to maintain an ignorance of your sinfulness in order to convince yourself of your perfection?
To maintain ones testimony by ignoring sins committed to convince oneself of attaining sinless perfection?
Deliberately avoiding the knowledge of God's perfect would almost be a full time job in and of its' self.
The word of God explains that God is so holy that even sins of Ignorance mar perfection:
“And if a soul sins, and commits any of these things which are forbidden to be done by the commandments
of the Lord; though he knew it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity. And he shall bring
a ram without blemish out of the flock, with your estimation, for a trespass offering, unto the priest: and the priest shall make an atone ment for him concerning his ignorance wherein he erred and knew it not, and it shall be forgiven him.” Leviticus 5:17, 18. Charles Finney has gone so far as to twist Pauls words in Acts 17:30 ("And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent." stating that "Their sins were a matter of comparative unimportance. "
As for the unsaved who are concerned with his state; every idle word and every work is their own condemnation laid to their account and added to the imputed transgression of Adams sin.
Doubly condemned by nature and nurture .
The saint however is hidden in Christ and his sins and iniquities God has promised to remember no more.
The saint, in great thanks, knows that God is too holy to look upon his sin and so has provided Jesus Christ.
Is it not interesting that those who claim that a person can achieve sinless perfection by an second work of Grace can then loose their salvation? How can someone who has attained perfection then be unperfect?
Have they never read Romans 7:25 or Romans 10:3. Job understood this when he said " if I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: If I say I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse ".Job 9:20
James 3:8 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
All we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all . Isaiah 53:6
God has not enabled us to become sinless through prayer or even through our own faith or through our own efforts working with him but rather "all things are of God who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit , that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them ; and hath committed unto us the word reconciliation .........for he hath made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
On the Other hand: 1John 1:8 states convincingly, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”
What a shame to believe that one has attained Sinless perfection when in fact they have according to the scriptures turned the truth of GOD into a Lie and worship and serve the CREATURE,( themselves) rather than the Creator.
