This week I became the Arts Editor for Insteem, a new decentralized news source visioned by @Sarasate.
I came to Steemit as an artist working at the intersection of creativity and social change. Throughout my professional career my focus has been on promoting human and civil rights through art-based projects.
I believe that artists have a tremendous role to play in shaping societal decisions. An artists natural flexibility and creativity allows them to see outside of the box, creating unexpected solutions to age-old problems.
I love work that interacts with the world around it, in response to the cultural zeitgeist. I’m interested in how art can be a rehearsal for the revolution--how it can inspire societal transformation and radicalize nontraditional sectors.
As someone who feels a fiery passion about art and social justice, I have always dreamed of working for a news source that would allow me to be outwardly political with my views.
Cue Insteem: A Quality, Dencentralized News Source On Steem. I stumbled onto the Insteem site via a call for Journalists that led me to their Discord channel. After popping in, I met @Sarasate, heard more about his vision and said: SIGN ME UP.

Here’s what @Sarasate told me to get me inspired to join @Insteem:
While getting back on steem around the beginning of the year I realized that there are more and more independent journalists joining the Steem blockchain recently; mainly due to censorship on big social media platforms and MSM.
So I decided I wanted to create a place for decentralized news and independent journalists on Steem. My dream is to make Insteem a platform where approved, independent journalists can post articles which will be upvoted based on quality and content. You can rest assured that you will never be censored, and your work will never be deleted.
To achieve this, our structure will include News Editors working in various departments who do curation, approving, and mentoring -- just like at a normal news desk. And they will be rewarded for their contributions.
Our vision is a platform for independent, decentralized news where journalists can have power over the stories they tell, and consumers have power over the news they receive. Thanks to the reward system, it will be easy for our community to gain access to quality, uncensored, undeletable news from all over the world. Our journalists will be people who are directly on site, working around the globe, without intermediaries like news agencies.
I think the potential is huge and the time is now.

After joining @Insteem as their Arts Editor, I then stumbled upon an incredible opportunity from @KarenSueStudios. She is delegating 3500 SP to 5 worthy projects! View full contest here.
I would like to nominate @INSTEEM for this remarkable contest from @KarenSueStudios as a fledgling project with incredible contributors that deserves to get some support behind it!
As we get hit the ground running over the next few weeks you will see more and more independent journalist and high-quality content creators joining our ranks. In the meantime, let me introduce you to our core team:
CHIEF EDITOR
@Sarasate. Sara is the former CTO of multiple startups and co-founder of Berlin-based CTO. Not only is he an incredibly gifted tech guru, he’s also a classically trained musician, sportsman, and reader!
SENIOR EDITORS
@Lupo. Lupo is an entrepeneur, fitness addict, and world traveler who works on the go as a consultant for start-ups and companies world-wide. You’ll find him spending his free time in the gym, on the track, or running with friends!
@LilyRaabe. Lily is a working artist, business consultant, and entrepeneur currently developing business strategy and content for 6 nonprofit clients, and 5 independent artists. Her goal is to help artists thrive on and off the Blockchain.
@Eroche. Eroche is a steem and tech writer developing high-quality posts to help you master the Blockchain in all its forms.
I’ve been looking--and the fact of the matter is--INSTEEM is highly unique on the steemit platform. Not only will this project add immense value to steemit, it will also support (hopefully thousands!) of independent journalists seeking a home for their work!
As an American citizen I have sat for the last year of the Trump presidency watching the dog and pony show that is our government dominate the media. While America is caught up in the soap opera comedy that is the Trump administration, the rest of the world is moving on without us.
Meanwhile, our own independent journalists are facing higher levels of censorship than ever before. The need is dire for this type of platform to exist to support those who are being silenced--and to make sure that the public is able to access the truth.
Please support quality, decentralized news on Steem today! Your delegation will be put to exceptional use providing much-needed, critical support for independent journalists around the world.
If you have any questions, find me on Insteem Discord as @LilyRaabe and I’d be happy to chat more.

It is things like this that give me hope for Steemit and the world. Awesome to read that this exists!
Yay, glad to see you caught it! You should pop into Discord to say hi! :)
Wow, that's powerful, Lily! Looking forward to hear more on and from Insteem...
Thank you so much for those kind words, appreciate you stopping by to check Insteem out. :)
Great idea! I was thinking today something similar. Is it possible to have a tv channel for independent news on the blockchain? For the start hosts could be @thejimmydoreshow or @leecamp.
That’s an awesome idea! Pop over into the Discord linked above and float the idea by @sarasate...live news would be sweet!
I'm not sure what @sarasate...live is....
Head on over and chat with @sarasate in discord about your idea. And my feedback is that “live” news would be an awesome addition to the channel! :)
Finally! Long awaited "channel" of officiating criticism and Steemit-related opinion column. (Did anyone ever have that idea on Tumblr or even Facebook?) I'd love to follow along the curation trail! Check out SteemAuto about that one :D, you may gain additional support to get this off the ground faster.

My obvious question: Does the "Arts" category include books?
I think so...maybe the better title for the category should be “Arts & Culture”? Hm...also, they have out a call for journalists etc...pop into the Discord if you’re interested in writing etc...:) You’d be awesome at it.
