They know Trump isn't stupid enough to fire him and they know he doesn't have to because the memo will take care of him. They know RR's goose is cooked and they are sacrificing him to get out in front for damage control. The grandstanding and manufactured outrage surrounding this hypothetical situation of Trump actually taking this bait and firing RR are just a bonus that serve as this weekend's talking points.
